caladancid
Anyone else having issues downloading this? I purchased the ebook, but then it says not available to download until 22 October, which is not what everything else says about the book (including the books page on BL). DarkChaplain
Send them a stern email, it isn't unusual for them to screw things up like this. Even with subscriptions you often hear people complain that their downloads haven't been added yet even when everybody else can buy it straight up. Since I'm adding their releases to Goodreads on a weekly basis, I feel the urge to say: They really need somebody better to maintain their website/store/database. That thing's a mess and so full of errors a lot of times, it drives me nuts. Nevermind all the incomplete info on older releases, the lack of categories or quality of life improvements that'd make browsing the store easier for customers. Heck, half the time you can't even find stuff like their reading lists or events. HeritorA
'Shadowsword' is an amazing novel, much better than a 'Baneblade' and even better than everything Dan Abnett written about tankers to date. Plus it has an amazing moment of dug out heavy infantry vs CSM - and it's depicted exactly how it would have happened in real life Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/326883-shadowsword/#findComment-4539310 Share on other sites
DarkChaplain
If Shadowsword is even better than Baneblade, I might have to budge on my reluctance to get the hardback(s). The first book was pretty amazing as it is. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/326883-shadowsword/#findComment-4539448 Share on other sites
Jareddm
Haley has always been good at giving 40k a more 'hard sci-fi' approach compared to other authors. I haven't read Baneblade or Shadowsword, but all of his other works have done a great job of capturing the technical side of 40k. Brother Dougal
Guy Haley's my favorite author of BL right now, mostly because I love his books on every faction of the setting. Gav Thorpe wrote the definitive trilogy on the Eldar, and I won't say he's better than Andy Chambers at portraying their dark cousins, but Haley's still the guy who's done a fantastic job with Orks, Tau, and Imperials. He can do it all. His Eldar novel Valedor and accompanying short stories are so good I keep copies of them on my phone for just when I feel like peeking at them. He really stayed true to Thorpe's vision on that one. I only hope that someday they let him write a novel on the Necrons. My faction collection won't be complete until there's an actual novel from their perspective. caladancid
It really is a fantastic novel. BL got the eBook issue sorted out, and I have been blown away. HeritorA
It really is a fantastic novel. BL got the eBook issue sorted out, and I have been blown away. Haley again outdid himself - the scene with Jonas and his platoon fighting Emperors Children tactical squads simply mind blowing and feels soooo real Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/326883-shadowsword/#findComment-4542432 Share on other sites
Redrandy93
I just finished Shadowsword and thought it was terrific! I hope he writes another novel with the same surviving characters. Loved the titan and EC battle scenes. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/326883-shadowsword/#findComment-4630593 Share on other sites

DukeLeto69
Looks like I should get Shadowsword then! Do I need to read Baneblade first (or would it at least benefit me to do so)? HeritorA
Looks like I should get Shadowsword then! Do I need to read Baneblade first (or would it at least benefit me to do so)? It would benefit from several points of view. From the general one you could read it separately without any 'big' issues Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/326883-shadowsword/#findComment-4631808 Share on other sites

Redrandy93
Brother, I would read Baneblade too. Gives you more info and feel for the big tanks. I hope he writes another novel as I like the characters. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/326883-shadowsword/#findComment-4632685 Share on other sites

He has 3 books being written for BL right now (2 as of today, cause he finished Perturabo).
