Rites Of War Ideas.

Nice idea!

While not new as such, the second RoW for BA I think needs a little help.

Perhaps something like fearless and letting the feel no fain come in from when they take the wound that reduces them to 50%, instead of waiting until their turn. This woudl mean they can keep fighting and get a chance to sleep combats, but not be swept themselves etc

I'd like to see a generic rite based around lots of infantry, heavily restricting tank usage (if at all bar walkers) but give real bonuses to survivability or maybe some extra pre game movement to represent "full March" etc, or maybe bringing on destroyed units from reserves.

Hell more I think about it that could be Iron Warriors corpse grinding...

Here's one I cooked up for the MDRC a while ago:

With a view to represent an early crusade, pre-primarch army, I have compiled this:

CONCEPT
Rite of War: Sol Crusader

Effects

- Any unit armed by default with bolt weapons in the usual LACAL entries may replace them, like for like, with volkite contemporaries listed as such for free:

  • Bolt Pistol = Volkite Serpenta
  • Bolt Gun = Volkite Charger
  • Heavy Bolter = Volkite Culverin
Unit options remain otherwise unchanged.

- The army may use 0-2 relics, instead of the usual 0-1. Both relics may be given to a single non-unique Independant Character if the player so chooses.

Limitations

- You may not take units wearing terminator armour. The option in any unit entry to take terminator armour should be ignored.
- You may not take a Fortification allied detachment.
- You may not take any Primarch Lord of War unit.

Addendum:

- This rite of war may not be taken by any Shattered Legion character.

Here's my idea for a Destroyer RoW

Purged Ground

Effects

- Destroyers can and must be taken as Compulsory troops

- Moraits lose Lone Killer

- Anyone with access to Heavy Bolters may purchase Rad bolts for it for +15 points, changing the AP to 3 and giving it the Fleshbane and Radphage rules

- Attrition awards D3 victory points instead of one

Limitations

- Number of vehicles may not exceed number of units with LA rule

- May not be taken by Salamanders

Ultramarines quite famously have Destroyer Cadre's!

So it's just Salamanders who would potentially disdain their use :)

I'd also argue that the Heavy Bolter should just be a plain addition for them, or some sort of pistol ammo - but that's a different topic entirely!

I'd also add move through cover etc.

I want a XIX Predation Fleet RoW

Something like:

  • Fear, Infantry gets deepstrike, Preferred Enemy(Infantry)
  • +1 to go first/Seize
  • 1 Heavy Support slot, no super heavy tanks
  • Everything needs to start in a transport, be on a bike/have jump pack etc, or deepstrike
  • No allies

Trying to put one together to represent the Xana Incursion... Endryd Harr and his Zombie Black Shields etc.

Essentially, while Black Shields cannot normally use a Rite... Could be a fun exception.

Kinda similar to your predation fleet Nusquam too :P

Requirements/ Drawbacks:

  • Must use Orphans of War option (to represent them being an overwhelming force in a surprise attack that will take a lot to break)
  • Endryd Harr must be the Warlord
  • Forge Lord Consul must be taken ( Erud Vahn!)
  • No Super Heavy Vehicles or Flyers may be taken except for the Legion Mastodon.
  • No unit may take a dedicated-transport of any kind

Advantages:

  • All infantry & Dreadnoughts (of any type) in the Army gain the Infiltrate special rule
  • All units that have the "support squad" special rule may ignore it for the purposes of army selection
  • You may take one unique unit from one of the following legions: Raven Guard, Iron Hands, Salamanders - but they have LA:Blackshields and as such benefit from the Wrought by War instead of their own LA:X rules
