Emicus
Is it literally the worst thing you can take? I've had daydreams about Bullgryns grav-chute inserting from Valkyries lately. Do tell if this is something that has been tries before and also on a scale from 4-20 how cool will it be :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/326936-bullgryns-in-valkyrie/ Share on other sites
Centurio
Use the rampart detachment to give them fearless, counterattack, etc and I think it might be interesting. WarriorFish
The literally worst thing you can take is a xenos army. Or do you mean table top wise? Rule of Cool reigns supreme as ever (this ranks at 18), but given Bullgryns are a mobile wall being able to drop them in where they're needed might not be as bad as it initially sounds. Enemy forces driving up a flank? Valuable vehicle escort routed/diverted away? Drop in some Bullgryns and have them hold the line and provide some cover... You wouldn't want large squads due to their base size, but you don't get loads in a Valkyrie anyway aside from costs. The trick with reserves/transports is to try and get them out and busy without too much delay I think, otherwise it's literally wasting points - the right moment is the compromise that can win games ;) I'd love to see this in action, so let us know if you give it a go. If nothing else it might surprise your opponent  Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/326936-bullgryns-in-valkyrie/#findComment-4534594 Share on other sites
steellegionnaire85
Valkyrie cannot transport ogryns so I do not think they could transport bullgryns. WarriorFish
I don't think the Valkyrie or Vendetta have hard restrictions on what they can transport? When Ogryns had the "it's dark in dere" rule Valkyries didn't even have a model! "Its dark in dere" is still one of those old codex rules that still makes me chuckle lol. Emicus
@centurio unfortunately the Rampart Detachment requires 5man Bullgryn units and they take 3 seats each in the bird. @steellegionnaire85 fortunately it's no longer dark in 'dere cause the enginseers got around to replacing the light-bulbs! @warriorfish a 18 you say.. Guess I have no choice now. Though I will be pushing for a house rule to take slabshield/powermaul bullgryns! Ulrik_Ironfist
Valkyries can transport 4 Bullgryn. Though I'd say take a unit of 3, so you have transport space left over for a priest, or a commissar. I'd also be reluctant to take the slabshield dudes, instead take the mauls. Emicus
Anyone tried it yet? I'm hunting down a cheap Valkyrie as we speak. Because this is a completely non-competitive addition to my force, not to mention illegal (unless unbound - I'm adding a single unit of Bullgryns to Militarum Tempestus), I figured I'd go whole hog in the houseruling department and allow the Bullgryns to keep their slabshield when buying power mauls. Cause It's ridiculous that they can't for ~60ppm. May the Light of the Emperor guide me, and my example be seen by the GW team so they can sort the Tempestus/Guard at large out. Ulrik_Ironfist
Emicus, you might consider a couple of vet squads and a lord commissar, to put this all in a guard army, so you can take the bullgryns. Sure it's a tax, but those vets might help you out? WarriorFish
Hopefully we get some more options in the next codex for them (and a points drop), but my Bullgryns are still on the assembly line.
