I was thinking about sisters of battle last night as I waited to fall asleep and got some ideas for Adepta Sororitas formations. Like the title says, it was for fun and balance wasn't in mind when I wrote them down, though you're free to discuss it in this thread. I also haven't read any of the fandices posted in this board so I apologize if I've accidentally plagiarized someone.

DISLODGING FORCE

FORMATION:

* 1 unit of exorcists or 1 unit of whirlwinds scorpius
* 1 unit of scout sentinels or 1 unit of armoured sentinels
RESTRICTION:

none

SPECIAL RULES

The long arm of the Ecclesiarchy: every model in this formation changes its faction to Adepta Sororitas and gains Shield of Faith if it didn't already have it.
Suffer not the coward to live!: one scout sentinel or armoured sentinel from this formation can nominate an enemy unit within 18" and in line of sight in its shooting phase. It cannot do this in the same turn it runs. Until the end of the phase, all shooting attacks made with scorpius multi-launchers or exorcist missile launchers by models in this formation against the nominated unit gain the rule ignores cover and are treated as having an infinite range.

SWEEPING FORCE

FORMATION:

* 1-3 battle sister squads
RESTRICTION:

every battle sister squad must buy a dedicated rhino

SPECIAL RULES
None shall escape His wrath!: a battle sister squad can willingly disembark from its dedicated rhino even if it moved at cruising speed during this movement phase, and all its models' weapons are twin-linked against fleeing units during the following shooting phase.

Making up formations is fun indeed...while iam at it, the most basic formation (anyone has it) is like this i think.

Decurion: If a Adeptas Sororitas army includes 1 core formation and 1 Auxilery formation than all Battle Sisters gain the following benefits:

-+2 to deny the wich rolls from Adamantium will

-5+ Shield of faith saving roll

Core:

Sororitas batle conclave

1 Cannoness

0-1 Sororitas command

1-3 Celestians

2-6 Sisters of battle

1-3 Domminions or Seraphim in any combination

1-3 Retributors

Restrictions: none

Benefits:

-Warlord may re-roll her warlord trait if part of this formation

-All units are objective secured

-Acts of Faith may be re-rolled and used twice per battle

On your first formation raven, don't all the units in a formation need to come from the same faction?

I actually really like the second formation

Spacefrisian: that seems powerful(but I suppose there are more powerful things in this edition). I'm . . . a bit uninterested by "decurion" style formations.

Good point. I forgot the rule I had devised for the Armoured Extermination detachment that might or might not be finalized one day:

The long arm of the Ecclesiarchy: every model in this formation changes its faction to Adepta Sororitas and gains Shield of Faith if it didn't already have it.

The second formation is my favorite. I have no idea whether it's weak or strong but I just find it so evocative.

Hum. I don't like models that aren't actually Battle Sisters having Shield of Faith, but that's just me.

Yeah but Decurions are the name of the game.

I still think that a decurion/ formation in style of Warmachine MK2 would have been better where you unlock minor bonuses if you take certain units and you gain extra bonuses by adding x amount of units per tier....but that would make it to obvious where GW got the idea from.

Any chance the Sweeping Force could buy Rhinos OR Repressors? Because I've got quite a few Repressors for my army and really like using them.smile.png Of course, they would still have to get out to get the twin linked.

Make it a dedicated transport, rather than specifically a rhino, and we're golden!

This is something else I forgot to mention; these formations fit my preferences, they can be modified to the readers' leisure (like everything I provide, really). If you want to use immolators, repressors, hell, even commandeered land raiders, feel free to do so.

Hum. I don't like models that aren't actually Battle Sisters having Shield of Faith, but that's just me.

These vehicles would actually be piloted by sisters of battle, so they'd get Shield of Faith. I guess that means the sentinels' BS should be raised to 4... incidentally, the scout sentinel wouldn't be open-topped since the driver wears power armor.

  • 2 weeks later...
Ive been thinking about using Sentinels as a base for Penitent Engine conversions. Use the open cockpit build, put a spare unhelmeted Sister head from the Immolator kit onto the pilot torso (say she's a novice without power armour maybe) then put claws from Ork killa kans or def dreads on it.

Well it's the same legs, and you'll spare on super glue when transporting your homemade pen engines :) there's probably an easy way to have a similar servant in it as in the original engine. I'm working on a homemade pen engine too with a bit of spice to it, but I'm still trying to decide how to go about it.
