1. Undercoat the model with GW black undercoat spray
2. Drybrush layers of Rub and Buff Pewter to blend up from black to silver.  with the silver parts being the most raised areas.
3. A small amount of Tamiya Clear Yellow was added to Tamaiya Smoke and this was airbrushed over the whole model and the model was then left to dry.
4. GW Druchi Violet was then airbrushed over the model in random patches.
5.  Tamaiya Clear Green was then airbrushed in patches over the previous two colours.
6. The whole model was airbrushed with a layer of thinned down Tamaiya Smoke and the model was then left to dry.
7. The model was then protected with a coating of GW Purity Seal.

I did the following using only Brushes and GW paints, mostly washes.

Basecoat was Silver. Then I went around tinting certain panels with colors such as Sepia, Green, Purple, Blue, etc. Before drowning it all in an all-over wash of Black with a final Drybrush of silver.

That looks pretty good!  The other idea I was thinking was basecoat black, blend to silver in the high areas, like the guide says. Then using odd angles to pool washes differently... I'm thinking of agrax toward the bottom and using druchi toward the top with a nuln oil over everything to bring it back together... but it's obviously gonna take some experimentation. Good thing I have a lot of extra space marine models lying about. Thanks for the tips though, it's enough to steer me in a good direction.

Golden's Acrylic Green and Purple Interference Paints.

It will give you an oily luminescence. Haven't tried on black, and it doesn't show super well in photos. But it should do what you want. If you want, I can do a quick test and post it for you. Keep in mind, the photos won't capture it well. The reason is interference paint reflects light in its color, but still shows the color underneath. In shadow if used carefully it would show as totally black, then when the light hits it, it reflects in whatever color you choose to use, at least in theory. Photos tend to show the reflections in the color, but don't show the strange quality of color shift well.

I have the Luqitex Interference paints and theyre  essentially Colored Metallic Flakes in an acrylic paint  medium that dries clear. It might help you get the effect you want but it might also make them VERY sparkly.

Check out some of the WIP threads from EDT, he's made some use out of them.

I've found that when you mix them with standard acrylic colors it dramatically changes the effects.

Liquitex and Golden have slightly different interference paints. I've seen the liquitex used, but haven't tried it myself. It does seem to have more opalescence, and brighter color shift.

I mixed in matte medium and used the purple as a wash on my Slaaneshi warband, and used the blue and green for ethereal effects on some possessed tanks. A matte wash like nuln oil or thraka green tones down unwanted shimmer. Less is more in all cases.
