Decent metallic scheme for SOH?

Recommended Posts

Hi guys, I'd like to ask for some advice on a paint scheme. After finally taking the plunge and buying my first Heresy models (B@C terminators) I'm looking for some ideas of a painting scheme. Having read somewhere that they should be a 'metallic sea green', I have been looking down a similar route to the viva Metallica scheme for Crimson fists, substituting blue ink for either a green or a turquoise one. Anybody have any ideas of what I could go with? I bought some P3 turquoise ink to try, but I'm a little apprehensive about doing so before seeing a few other options!

Mix blue and green ink to get the right shade of blue-green, and than carefully paint successive layers over a bright silver basecoat.

For red (on Thousand Sons) I needed about 7 layers of red ink to get a good intensity, but with the darker SoH colours you may well acheive this in just 3-4 layers of ink.

Failing that, go along to an automotive shop that sells custom spray paint, and have them mix you up a can of a suitable colour. Then, all you do is give the models a couple of passes with the coloured metallic spray, and then use a little dark wash in the recesses and a suitable silver for the highlights/scuffs. Much easier IMO!

As you are in the UK, I note that Halfords sell custom sprays - I think it's about £15 for 300ml, and they have *hundreds* of colour sample cards to look though so that you can choose the colour you want. Then, they just mix the colour up for you off the code on the card you've chosen whilst you wait. Easy-peasy! ;)

Thanks Major! I had no idea that Halfords did that! That would be a hell of a lot easier than what I was planning.

The fewer steps, the better to be honest. The one thing stopping me from finishing my Blood Angels is the fact that the painting process is quite lengthy!
