Can centurions look good and are they worth it?

Been considering getting them to not lose sometimes but they look horrific.

If you think they look that bad, buying some just to win is probably not a great idea. Especially as even with conversion they will still be a Space-Marine-inside-a-Space-Marine.

...Maybe just get something totally different instead that fits your army's theme better (like some converted Mechanicus Automata perhaps)?

This tutorial is often cited as a good exemple of how centurions can be converted (plasticard required)

Way better.

I actually just did that tutorial, and added a few things where it left off. It takes work, but the end result is worth it.

That looks cooler. For sure. Why on earth would anyone approve this model in the first place. Yeesh.

Also anyone else notice the six pointed star showing up in tac squads on shoulder pads. And on theese models. Looks chaosish.

Basically the best competitive chaos army to field is loyalist marines count as unless you want to play Rebel Scum vs the Imperium.

Are they worth it on the table. Heck yeah! They are a ton of fun.

can they be made to look good? Well I am in the minority of the Internet in that I actually really like the way stock Centurions look. In fact, it was the Centurion and Terminator models that made me want to build a Space Marine army when I returned to 40k.

Here's my version that I painted up in BA colours awhile ago:

Not much conversion work except just cutting up some of the armor panels and leaving most of the bulky stuff off to have it look more like an exoskeleton suit.

Wow, that's at least 80% less hideous. It looks like that suit could step over things and not trip over it's own feet. Replacing the rather strange Centurion helmet is also an improvement in my opinion. I still find the power mittens a bit odd but that's not really something I disliked about the original kit.

I have to say these conversions are impressive and I can see potential in these models now. :)
