Some new Flesh tearers

I have finally painted up some new models!

The previous Death company Dreadnought meant I could theoretically use the Death company formation, but fielding minimal units of Death company did not seem like a very good idea. So in order to be able to field at least two decent sized units of DC with jump packs I have painted some more angry grey armoured marines. I still need some more, but it's a start!

Good job. By the way, why are the Death Company members wearing gray armor instead of the traditional black?

Thank you. When I started the army almost ten years ago, the information about the Flesh tearers organisation and colour scheme was limited to an article in White Dwarf. In that article there was no mention about the death company colour in the actual text, but the pictures of models in the article showed grey Death company marines. It was a bit unclear if that was the official colour scheme or if it was just how the person who made that army painted them. When I painted my first DC marine I thought quite a bit about if I should paint them grey or black, but in the end I settled for grey. I makes them stand out more from the rest of the army, since most Flesh tearers almost look black from a playing distance (black shoulder pads, helmets and jump packs).

And when GW much later clarified that Flesh tearers death company wore black armour I didn't want to repaint mine.

When the current codex was released and I was suddenly left with only two Troops choises I thought about painting another tactical squad, but never got around to it. But with the release of Angel's blade I felt I really had to get that squad done.

So here is the first half of a new Tacical squad (which will most likely arrived in a drop pod).

They were surprisingly fun to paint. It has been a long time since I painted anything so basic for the army.

Good job on the heavy flamer-wielding Devastators.

Thank you. But they are not devastators. The Flesh tearers do not use the Codex Astartes numbering of squads (1-6=Tacticals, 7-8=Assault, 9-10=Devastator). Due to their limited numbers, they can not affard to have squads dedicated to particular tactical roles and instead assign roles on a mission-to-mission basis. So in this case squad 10 is a tactical squad.

(In fact, 10 was the only squad number left in the 4th company in my army. All other numbers have already been assigned to squads.)

Some new Flesh tearers completed for an upcoming tournament. Scouts!

They may not be the best models around, but they look cool and with the latset errata they are at least a bit more playable.

When I painted my Storm Falcons Scouts a long time ago, I painted their cloaks to change texture and appearence to the background. I wanted to use the same idea for these, but the more detailed bases made that a much larger challenge. But it was fun, and I like how it turned out.

And finally a comparison with a normal marine. I like how the scout looks like it is part of the same force, but still very different.

Thank you!

Another model done. A standard bearer for my Sanguinary guards.

The banner represents what the Flesh tearers are in my eyes. They do not do precision surgical strikes or complex maneuvers to confuse the enemy - they go in head-on, crush everything in the general area, cut off the enemy commander's head and ask where the next target is. Effective, but not subtle.
