Inspiration needed: Share your Warp Cult/Renegade Militia

Howdy Guys and Girls :)

I recently got enough bits to make a little warp cult allied force for my Word Bearers (using GW cultist and FW renegade militia parts). Now  I try to figure out a paint scheme for them. Auggi and me (and others I already asked) nailed it down to something like this already:

pale letherface-masks

blackish main cloth

metallic red armour or red cloth pieces if no armour

Well, I'm still unsure, so I would ask you guys for ideas or to share your own Warp Cult or Renegade Militia to give me some inspiration :)

(Also, I'm not even sure if it will be a nurgle cult, undivided one or even a khorny cult - >.<)

Help me bolter and chainsword, you are me last hope :)

Khorne! Khorne! Khorne!

Although as allied to Word Bearers, I would probably go for a less overt mark of loyalty? So undivided.

Metallic red plates would show their devotion to the Word Bearers nicely though.

Whereas it isn't perfect for cultists, the B&C's Imperial Guard Painter could still come in handy for giving you a quick overview of what the colour scheme would look like.

Have you got any current fluff for your word bearers? What kind of help are you looking for with your cultists?

Black, red, silvers and some warm colours would suit them perfectly for a colour scheme as I would see it. If you went for a single colour.

Judging by the Word Bearers use of convert or die for their slaves (in the cases that they gave them the option) you could always use a vast array of colour schemes for different PDF's for different planets? So you could have a guard from Colchis mixed in with the sky blue colours of the Ultima system PDF's for example. It would allow for use of different parts down the lines for models like the Tanith regiment, Catachan, and Warhammer fantasy parts.

Something I've dabbled with in the past is to take your paint scheme and then tone it down with a light gray, light brown or the old pallid flesh color. This ages the mini so that it is no longer the vibrant colors of what they once were and help reflect their renegade status. Using a unified pallette to tone down the mini also has a tie in effect to bring them together.

If they are allied with the Word Bearers then they would have some kind of tattoos on their skin either words or symbols (chaos symbols or Doctor Strange)

Hehe, really not sure on the whole mark stuff yet. The FW models tend to work nicely for nurgle, but I want to keep them red. Maybe I'll play with some rust effects and weathering though ^.^

Thanks! Well the scheme itself has to work (since its not really different to my Word Bearers), the question is will it work for the FW renegade militia models?

I'm currently thinking about the fluff, and I think I'll make them hail from an armory world conquered by the Word Bearers. Their leader will be a former iterator who first traded imperial truth for the faith of the emperor, and later the faith for the truth of the primordial annihilator. His name/title will be the "Father of Crows".

Yep, tattoos are a must have!

In that case, it would make sense for them to have a somewhat drab or themed outfit mirroring the general theme of the world if you get my drift?

Vraks IIRC had a very similar scheme to Armageddon which reflects the pdf on those planets well, with all the dust/mud and sand. Judging by the nature of the planet if you went for an armoury world, it is highly likely that it would be a barren planet outside of the citadel networks and so on. So as I see it, its either going to be Ochres, Browns and Dirty colours to reflect a barren planet, or Greys, Blues and colder colours to reflect a more urban side of the world.

The cool thing is, with more urban colours, they will sit very nicely with red's for the word bearers, and it works even better with the barren colours.

Father of crow's is a cool name though, Could perhaps stick to black and greys, and keep the red minimal but visible if that makes any sense to keep with a sort of theme?

(everything is themes with me for some damn reason)

I toyed with the idea of a professional religious army for WB. Like the Ottoman Janissaires. I like rabid cultists as much as the next guy but I don't feel like chaos has enough organized factions represented.

Yes - GW, give us Byzant Janizars!!! (sp? the Sons of Horus auxilia)

If you are still after suggestions... can I suggest black clothing, off white armour, then dark red as your tie in/spot colour. The white armour allows you to do scripture on it, either in black or dark red, and the dark red gives you lots of options as it comes up on black or the armour.

Not that this is totally what I'm doing for my renegades for these reasons.
