Hunter as medusa

Hi. Just wanting to gauge some opinions, I'm building my 30k ironhands so I could use them in 40k aswell. I want to include some medusa and im thinking of going down the mars pattern chassis rather than the demios for anything rhino based.

Have any of you seen hunters used as proxies for medusas before? And what would you think about facing that on the tabletop both casual and tournament wise.

I've thought about doing that. I'd say the biggest problem will be convincing your opponent that this puny stormbolter is in fact a heavy bolter.

Atia used a hunter in her Death Guard army, though it's not a medusa count-as, if you're interested in seeing how it could look:

Death Guard Legion Mars pattern Hunter-Alpha [count-as Whirlwind Hyperios]

The Hunter-Alpha is the first known dedicated anti-aircraft tank fielded by the Legiones Astartes. Prior to the discovery of the STC for the Hunter, Space Marine Legion forces hat attempted to retrofit various designs to the Whirlwind artillery vehicle, with largerly negative results. Though a stable pattern of anti-aircraft Whirlwind was ultimately achieved in the Hyperios before the mass-production of the Hunter starts, several Legions have continued to use the hard to manufacture Hunter prototype tanks on many battlefields. During the First Battle for Mars, the Imperial Fists saved the Hunter STC, and used the Hunter tanks during the defence of Terra and the following Scouring Era ....

Alternatively, there is FW's Legion Medusa, if you want a Medusa that fits aesthetically with a Space Marine Legion.

That being said, I've wanted to make a Rhino-based Medusa conversion for a while, but that (if it ever happens) will involve quite a lot of scratchbuilding.

I'd be fine with it... it keeps the theme much more consistent than a random guard vehicle thrown in, in my opinion. Also, they just look pretty bad ass.

The Guard Medusas, along with the FW Armageddon pattern, look pretty good if you have Malcadors rolling in the same party. I really need to get my big tanks glued and painted up :)

Why scratchbuild when you can use te conversion kit from maxmini: http://maxmini.eu/heavy-weapons/siege-gun-heavy

Because the design I have in mind would recess the gun partly into the hull, somewhat like a Vindicator, but not exactly (the gun would sit higher than the Vindicator's.) The gun itself is not the main component of the scratchbuilding, the hull is. Basically my idea would require that the entire hull get redesigned, keeping only the track assemblies. It's hard to explain without sketches, and I'm rubbish at sketches. :P But that's just an idea...

I was planning to magnetise the front so I could fit a forward hull mounted heavy bolter when I'm using it as a medusa. Could look at a cupola one attached to the top as an alternative, would only fire it in the forward arc to keep it as the hull mounted.

I picked up one on eBay, built for half price so won't be able to do too much. I could magnetise the back to add a platform, possibly elongate the barrel if I wanted to use it as a basilisk.

The legion medusa is a good option but fits more with the demios rather than the mars patterns. Just looking for a balance to keep the theme and the 30/40k balance.
