Arkangilos
Founded: Believed to be Towards the end of the Horus Heresy Geneseed: Mixed, consisting of a warband from each the following: The Word Bearers, the Thousand Sons, the World Eaters, the Emperor's Children, and the Death Guard. Origins The Four Star Pact is not a single warband, but a pact between the leaders of five separate ones. Towards the end of the Horus Heresy, the Word Bearer Tarvak Jal received a vision from the Chaos Gods about the fall of Horus, and was instructed through this vision to bring together four Lords who would carry out their will. Creating the pact would prove no easy task, as the forces of Chaos are fickle and rarely get along, but Tarvak Jal ultimately succeeded. By appealing to each of the Lords' wills he managed to get them to get cast aside their differences for what they each believed was in their own personal interest. Yet this alliance was still never an easy one, with each member silently trying to out due and sabotage the others. Several times throughout the next ten thousand years they would go their separate ways, each time to accomplish their goals, but when Tarvak called, they would all return, usually in preparation of a dark crusade. The Sons of Neptis The personal warband of Neptis, a Sorcerer of the Thousand Sons. His ultimate goal seems to be to control life and death. He seeks knowledge to control the movement of souls so that he may capture them, and move them from a failed body to a healthy one. Some believe this may be that he believes that undoing the Rubric is a futile task, and so he seeks a way to transfer the souls of his brothers from their armor into new bodies. Tarvak Jal recruited him by promising him knowledge that could be beneficial, and a promise that he may use the other warbands in his schemes. Tarvak then showed Neptis a vision from Tzeentch, and the path was clear. With the promise of knowledge, resources, and power, Neptis agreed. The War Artists The personal warband of the Lord Marcion, former captain of the Emperor's Children. The War Artists did not fall as deep into the embrace of Slaanesh as their brothers. Not believing in what their legion had become, they had cast themselves away from it, and in several instances, fought against it. For a while, they had fought as loyalists. Yet, they found that despite their loyalties, there was still no place for them. Eventually they turned to their own agenda, and Lord Marcion carved out his own space, perfecting his art of war. Soon, he grew bored of his success, and began lashing out at more difficult targets. However, each time he found success, he found it to be less fulfilling. No matter where Lord Marcion attacked, the defences would be easily overcome and there would be no joy for him. His craft felt meaningless, the thrill from the perfection in his strikes did not sate his desire for the high. It was here that Tarvak found Lord Marcion the most willing to join. Tarvak convinced Marcion that the greatest battles lay ahead, and that if he joined him, he could give him campaigns in which his tactical and strategic brilliance would come to shine. He showed him visions of great crusades that would hone his skills, that would allow his art of war to be displayed for everyone to see. And so did Marcion join. It is said that Marcion no longer has his own body. Indeed, it is believed that after an assault on the Sanguinary Crusaders, his body was mortally wounded, but before he died, Neptis had captured his soul in a stolen Eldar Spirit Stone. Neptis then successfully transplanted his soul into the captured, and still very much alive, Sanguinary Guard. This test was the first somewhat successful test in Neptis's practice of Necromancy and soul transfers, but had a cost. Marcion found himself with a new addiction, for the Red Thirst was still there. He also found himself at odds with the body. His eyes constantly wept blood, at times there would be a rupture in one of his veins. These would not cause permanent danger, but were excruciatingly painful. The Life Reborn The Warband of Egror The Reborn, these followers of Nurgle seek to see the end of the Imperium and the galaxy in order to see the galaxy reborn with a new life. They personally hold nothing against the Imperium, nor do they hate the Emperor, they simply see them all as misguided. They believe that they have seen the truth of all things, and have accepted that death and decay must reign in order for life to be reborn, and that the Emperor and his Imperium are simply afraid of the truth. Indeed, they themselves were afraid of the truth, and fought like the rest of their legion against the inevitable. Yet, they found the new truth when they accepted it, and they only seek prevent the prolonged suffering caused by refusal. They believe they spread disease and death out of love, and wish to share their truth with the Emperor so that he, too, may be reborn. It was easy for Tarvak to convince them to sign the pact, as it provided them with a stable alliance and force with which to complete their goals. The visions that he showed them of the reborn galaxy only reinforcing their willingness. The Liberators of Gore The Liberators of Gore are the personal Warband of Lord Gore, formerly Captain Callius of the World Eaters. They started the fight against the Imperium because of the perceived Tyranny. As they "Liberated" worlds, they found that the populations were often resistant to their liberators, and so filled with rage they had turned upon those they had tried liberating. It was in the resulting slaughter that Captain Callius earned his new name, Lord Gore. Having cast aside the task of Liberating the oppressed people, they instead turned to setting their rage free. They began fighting and killing purely out of spite against the Imperium. This made it easy for the charismatic Tarvak to sway them to the pact. He could promise them wars unending, and appeal to a hidden longing in their souls, one that they had forgotten exists. ++++ That's it for now, time for me to work on some homework. As usual critiques are welcome. Also, each warband will have entire cult armies devoted to it.
