Must have missed this one somewhere on the release schedule. Sadly I hate audios, so if anyone gives this a listen, please shout out the pertinent plot points, if any! biggrin.png

After the destruction of the Infidus Imperator, Kor Phaeron of the Word Bearers brought his followers to supposed safety in the Eye of Terror. However, their newly adopted home, the daemon world Sicarus, is far from the sanctuary they imagined – the twisted hordes of the Kairic Adept Larazzar seek to crush these newcomers and all who would ally with them. Only in the ancient legends of Sicarus can their salvation be found, but is Kor Phaeron the one to lead them to it?

Another bit to tie Anthony Reynolds' Word Bearers into the Horus Heresy. He already did that with Dark Heart from Mark of Calth, and this one follows on from Macragge's Honour, the graphic novel.

Looking forward to listening to it.

Torn - on one hand I really love Anthony Reynolds' Word Bearers, and I still rate 'The Purge' as one of the best novellas in the series. I'd love to see more about the establishment of Sicarus, but not really a huge fan of Kor Phaeron. But, I'd rather read it as a novella that listen to it as an audio drama (or worse, a script).

I think the Coming Soon page only covers the more mainstream / spotlight releases... recent audio releases of Shadows of Treachery, Xenos and now Children of Sicarus have all been absent from the Coming Soon section so all have proven to be nice surprises, especially Xenos!

I think Reynolds has provided some interesting stories to the HH, especially The Purge, so quite looking forward to getting this. The Word Bearers story arc has been long overdue some extra time in the limelight happy.png

Didn't care for Reynolds' 40k Word Bearers stuff but The Purge was great. This is worth a look.

But... hold up. The "Kairic Adept Larazzar". Kairic as in connected to Kairos Fateweaver, certainly, but possibly also like the AoS Kairic Acolytes? A stretch but they're due a release (along with Tzaangors), maybe it's a hint of a 40k appearance with the other Tzeentch stuff? Wild speculation but...

Anthony 'The Purge' was awesome. Best HH novella to date. And his Marduk adventures on Calth is epic too ;)

Audio is not amazing but interesting. It will not give you some big revelations. But due to some fun stuff and great acting - tis very enjoyable

I liked all Anthony's previous books but this one not so much. It was way simple (maybe cause it's an audio drama).

Kor Pheron and co. end up on Sicarus, they wonder around, they kill stuff. Someone offers them a prophecy about reuniting with Lorgar, but it requires sacrificing KP, so KP kills the prophet. Another Kaeric Acolyte offers them a power bargain, KP kills the Acolyte too. Then it ends with KP starting to build his base of operations.

Nothing really revealing.

I enjoyed it a lot. Kor Phaeron is a despicable sod in general, and doubly so here. Big implications for the Heresy as a whole, and shows just how much of a hypocrite Kor is when it comes to his faith.

Does it reveal anything groundbreaking that changes the Heresy forever? No, and expecting that from the short stories or audio dramas is somewhat foolish. What it does offer is some very neat character development for Kor Phaeron and shows Sicarus pre-WB. It connects some dots within the series and crossed over to the 40k Word Bearers, and it leaves a possibility for Kor Phaeron and co to be featured again in some capacity, rather than simply dropping off the series entirely post-Calth (or post-Macragge's Honour, but the amount of people who have read that is probably rather small by comparison).

Very true. Agree on each point. But voiceover is epic anyway :)

I finished this one myself today on the way into work. As a story I liked it, it was decent, but didn't leap out at me as one of the best. It's Kor Phaeron being Kor Phaeron on a daemon world, didn't blow me away, but wasn't badly written either, so long as you go into it expecting a catch-up on him after Macragge's Honour, you shouldn't be disappointed.

What really stood out was it's quality as an audio drama, this is definitely the best feature. BL's audio dramas were already of excellent quality, and this one pushes it even further still. The sound effects, the voice modulation, and the actual voice acting itself, all absolutely top-notch. If you're at all interested in this short story, definitely get it in the audio drama format.

The entire audio drama was basically nothing but tzeentch daemons.

Kairic acolytes.

an ogroid thematurge

screamers

horrors (both pink and blue)

Very cool audio drama, great quality, worth every penny.

Rather interesting timing considering Magnus reveal and Thousand Sons in december.....interesting.....

Not really that interesting. 40k novels are practically just marketing for the miniatures and with this it looks like the HH may follow suit.

Taking Orks as an example, I remember when stories used to describe an enemy combatant as something along the lines of " a hulking monstrosity carrying an assortment of gruesome and terrifying weaponry, alongside crude archaic projectile weapons".

Nowadays it's " the Ork Nob had a Slugga and a Big Choppa". I'm not surprised that the author hasn't gone on to say "he would have had a PowerKlaw but couldn't find the points...........".

The recent Corax: Weregeld novella had multiple references to 'Scouts', which are not a unit in the HH tabletop universe so it's strange why they would capitalise it. Most likely a nod at the 40k unit.
