Planning next purchases for my Death Guard

I've recently chosen Death Guard to get into 30k. So I bought Prospero the other day, giving me 30 MkIII Marines. Another 30k player offered to trade me Typhon and 4 Deathshroud Terminators (not sure what happened to the 5th guy, RIP) for the Sisters of Silence. I also got two more sprues of 10 Marines on eBay, giving me a grand total of 50 MkIII Marines and Typhon and friends.

Not sure how to expand. A large chunk of cash is going to go to buying shoulder pad upgrades (I do not know how to use transfers properly and they always look crappy to me) tongue.png But I'm thinking that with 50 MkIII marines I can do as a rough list brainstorm:

2x 20-man Tactical Squads w/Vexila, not sure how to equip Sergeants, add Apothecaries

10-man Support Squad w/Flamers (Chem), maybe with a Rhino?

Typhon w/4 Deathshroud Terminators; no idea what Rite of War to take (was looking at The Reaping but I'm not taking advantage of it). Should I get a Land Raider for them?

Siege Breaker Consul (going to convert him; I found a barebones-looking 40k Marine wearing what looks similar to MkV armor so thinking I can give him a Thunder Hammer and Death Guard head and maybe a CSM backpack or something and he would fit right in)

3x Quad Mortars w/Phosphex

Thinking two Dreadnoughts? No idea which type though, Contemptor or Deredeo or Leviathan or how to equip. two Contemptors with twin Kheres cannons?

I like tanks, Vindicator Laser Destroyer or two for anti-tank purposes?

So my initial shopping list would be something like:

* ~60 Death Guard shoulder pads (ouch my wallet!)

* Apothecary squad (sucks they are mostly solid pieces, but I can live with that)

* 10 Death Guard heads (spread throughout on sergeants and such)

* 3x Quad Mortars (use DG heads)

* 10 Flamers (for tactical support squad)

and I'm not sure after that, whether to get Dreadnoughts or Vindicators or something else (still eyeing that Land Raider for Typhon). I'm still waiting for my two red books to arrive and still a bit overwhelmed about how 30k actually plays out sad.png

I might invest in two transfer sheets over all those pads! A bit cheaper and you'll have stuff for vehicles, banners, etc. Buy more of those awesome heads with the savings ;)

Definitely pick up a Rhino for the flamer unit. You'll probably want a Spartan or Land Raider Phobos for Typhon, too.

Pretty on track though. Opponents will super hate the phosphex mortars; don't abuse them too much! How are you on rule books? Aside from the two main Legion red books, Conquest is a decent if pricey buy for XIVth players. Mostly for background though.

If need be, you can always prime and paint a piece of sprue in your scheme and practice transfers you feel like you're unlikely to use on that. Microsol/Microset are good to have, but there are a ton of other techniques for good looking transfers out there on the internet. It always takes practice, though! Like a lot in this hobby, you won't learn what you never attempt. I understand though, transfers were a really big pain for me to figure out.
