Harshest Units in the LA Army Lists

Unfortunately that's not how it works, only talons consisting of one leviathan are allowed to take a DDP. If you wanted three in DDPs, you'd have to take three separate talons and use up all your heavy support slots, which is still nasty but at least you can't take any other heavy support.

After having played a ton of Heresy games, I would say quad mortars with shatter shells are the most obscene unit and +1 for any competitive list.  The new points increases in the red books really helped level things out.  Typhon is still a beast but you can also take StormSwords now, which is Typhons with larger template basically.

Not to mention Stormswords are chearp $wise.

That's why we love Forgeworld, that's so bloody smart and cheese proof.

I do like the Stormsword... Even though Day of Revelation stops all LoW except Flyers and Sangunius... Going to be a while until he shows up in the flesh.

Where are the most recent rules for it? It's weapon but not the profile was in the Cadian supplement for 40k....

- Leviathans

- Typhons

- Whirldwind Scorpius

- Vindicator Laser Destroyer Array in squadrons of three

- Land speeders with MM and grav gun

- Spartans with Flare Shields

- Chaplains

- Phosphex Quad Mortars

Pretty much this although don't see the Chaplin thing myself, I'd swap that for primus medicae (especially in a spartan with a primarch)

Falcion and glaive are also worthy of a nod. Hate seeing coming out of bag before games.

Also double D warhound is the ultimate hate me toy

Haha Chaplains? What?

Also the falchion isn't that great for the points, despite having a D weapon

If you properly houserule the shock-pulse upgrade, it's insanely useful. Nothin' like shutting down your opponents Warlord Titan!

The Stormsword is mont'ka. The Stormsword siege cannon profile is on page 164 and the Stormsword itself is on page 153.

Chaplains are more for night Lords terror assaulting night raptors and world eaters inductii. Dem rerolls.

With plus one to wound making sure hits get converted to wonds you could make some suitably angry assault squads/units capable of maiming

From the OP I understand the question to be which unit would be obnoxious if spammed. I don't think you are breaking any hearts bringing a Chaplain.

Quad Mortars in elites are the only thing that really pops to mind.

There are a bunch of very strong HS choices but there are so many that spamming or diversification are equally scary. Maybe multiple Leviathans? Maybe...

+ Combi Weapons (at best 10 on Vets with Sniper..) en masse

+ Quad Mortars en masse, eapecially with shatter and/or phosphex

+ Warhound

+ Triple Leviathans with full gear

+ Speeders en masse.. dirt cheap Javelins with rockets

+ 50 men blobs of rending and fearless Levys via Cults (I know, not Legion..)

That's it. Everything else is costed fairly or automatically restricts the list beside being point heavy.

As basic troops though? Vets are definitely under-priced and far and away the best troops choice already.

It is true that Vets are a solid option particularly as a troop choice but in my experience it isn't combi access that causes that.

The fact that they aren't easily accessible as a Troops choice (except for Sons of Horus) balances them out. The Rites that do allow have some severe restrictions.

Yeah they cost 2 points more than Tactical Marines, but that's really a problem with Tactical Marines, plus after a pinch of gear they quickly go over 200 points for a unit of dudes in power armor.  Support squads, assault marines, terminators, Legion uniques, etc. all can be equally useful and fight for elite slots (and the first two are troops always!).  I am not going to give nasty looks to someone bringing 3-4 Veteran units instead of some of the other stuff (unless I'm playing Cybernetica Monster Mash, in which case I'll see them in the parking lot later with a cog-toothed tire iron! :D).

Yeah, I think Leviathans and Quad Mortar spam are about the only things that would be annoying as hell to face constantly (and in the case of the mortars it would be the time it takes to resolve them more than their admittedly amazing rules).
