Still no sign of Rylanor...

After that small mention of him in Fulgrim going off to guard some underground bunker, I was sure he would end up reappearing again at some point. But that was 35 books ago (holy :cuss, 35!!), and nothing, and think nothing has touched Istvaan III since Legion of One?

supposedly he dies saving the last of the survivors including Saul as they make there get away. But that's old fluff and not from BL up to this point.  I'm afraid he is in all likelihood dead with everyone else.  BL tidying up that story loop so they can go on and on and about the shattered legions in detail.

It would be good for him to stay dead. There are a lot of resurrected characters by now. Istvaan 3 and Istvaan 5 should have been left behind for good a long time ago!

I'm totally a hypocrite with Saul Tarvitz. I always complain when characters never stay dead. But for him or Rylanor I take some verbal abuse to have them back.

In some universe I can agree with that. But still - only one of them - Rylanor or Tarvitz. Choose biggrin.png Both are too much presure ;)

I think thematically to bring Tarvitz back would just be too cheap. I like how Rylanor factors into... whose was it... the Third Millenial WiP in Age of Darkness, regardless.

Apart from anything else, Moturg's "don't be foolish. None survived" line is too badass to be contradicted

Too cheap. It's like with the guys who want to have Sanguinius ressurrected in W40K - all the HH sacrifices would be POINTLESS and will totally ruin any drama.

I wonder if someone would find Rylanor... still guarding the bunker thanks to the Dread life support systems and wave-away technomagicbabble, ten thousand years later when someone in the "current" timeline stumbles upon Isstvan system.

Too 'Doctor who' to that. The best case he was saved by Shattered Legions at some point at the time and is making war on the fringes right now

So just to be sure, are there any Traitor Legions who haven't had a loyalist member survive past Istvaan. I'm trying to remember one for every Legion at least (Garro, Dantioch, that Word Bearer sniper, the Night Lord Chief Librarian, Revuel Arvida, Loken. The ones I can't think of are World Eaters, Emperor's Children, and Alpha Legion. Anybody got an answer?

yup we got one of the Knights Errant who used to be a World Eater

there was also a loyalist Emperor's Children in the Terran system that Garro had to investigate during one of the audiobooks - don't really wanna spoil it for anyone who may not yet have listened to it (Sword of Truth, i think it was)

Alpha Legion we don't know, because we don't know what the deal is with them as a whole, do we?

On the subject of the Word Bearer sniper from the Unremembered Empire arc - was his story wrapped up after UE in one of those annoying limited edition novellas or ? I liked that dude and wanted to read more about him

I like that some deaths are permanent. And I say that as someone who has a resurrection planned in each of the two epics I have never been able to complete.

So why leave it open?

One of the strengths of the Warhammer franchise is leaving possibilities open so that fans can choose what they like better, even when there's an official canon answer and even though writing so much about the Horus Heresy dissipated much of the mystery.

I could be wrong of course. Wouldn't be the first time. After all, I think the Imperium are the good guys. biggrin.png

This makes me sad! So why leave it open? A bit sloppy in my opinion! I think it's time to wrap up the heresy. I used to get all the books from day one and no I can't be bothered to be honest, it's lost it's momentum big time.

You mean back when there was no editor assigned to the Horus Heresy as a series and there was no plan whatsoever? No idea. That was about 5 years before my time.

No worries that you've jumped ship, though. I mean, I think my jumping ship was a little more impressive, like... but still.
