Hi guys!

Here is my last automata, the first of my three Vorax.

I hope you liked it. :)

Comments and critics are welcome!

I love it, expecially the weathering, that is extensive but subtle and not over-the top. A wonderful job.

Thanks!

I don't really like too clean models, and i'm not a nurgle follower, so here we are. :D

Vorax are always so cute. This is no exception. Great job :tongue.:

Thank you.

You're right, those mechanical mantis are damn cute!

Love the vorax, real feeling of scale on them which i always like and often find missing on miniatures.

Yep, i have the same feeling.

In fact, on the FW website, they look "small" because their design is less massive than the Castellax one, but they are quiet big.

How do you do your weathering bu the way? Will be painting some bots son - would be great to know!

It's easy, i use some brown oil paint on the metallic parts.

On the "brass" i use some nihilakh oxide, and on the black and yellow parts, i use some Typhus corrosion, and then some pigments (Burnt Sienna from Vallejo).

That's all!

Really impressive stuff KvK! It's such a nice scheme, and I like how it's echoed in miniature on the Vorax too! Look forward to seeing more! :smile.:

Thank you very much!

I hope that i will not disappoint you so. :)

Can't wait to see that Vultarax in yellow and black!

Me too!

I think that it will be a big bumblebee :D

But first, i have to say that i HATE the standard cross support for flyers, so i made something that is more "aesthetic" (for me).

I hope you will like it :

Definitely makes sense, a rich base can add a story to any model, and flying models, with all the blank space they leave on the base, particularly benefit from this.

That said, I am not a fan of that tree. It might be ok for an older model, but as it is the level of detail is too different from that of the Vultarax. Maybe it is just because they are still unpainted, but to me they look as if they come from completely separated realities.

I hope your great paint skills will make me change my heart about this!

You are right, there is a huge difference between the two models.

So, i tried to had some more details on the tree (like some leaves, snow, ect..).

I hope it will make you change your mind about the contrast between the Vultarax and the tree...

Here are some pics of my work (i will start the vultarax soon).

Dosjetka and Grand Master Laertes:

First of all thanks a lot. :smile.:

Then the yellow is quiet easy to achieve.

first i paint the plate in Averland Sunset. Then i add some  Yriel Yellow. Finally the plate is in "pure"  Yriel Yellow.

Then, with a drawing pen, i draw the flames, and paint them.

Come weathering time!

Use some oil paint, Typhus Corrosion and pigments. And tadaaa!

Warsmith Krast:

Yes, the Thanatar is a real monster and his appearence has a huge impact on the table. :tongue.:

Black Cohort:

Thanks a lot dude!

I really like how you weather the black, can you go into a little more depth on how you get that dirt?

Also, Satarael  is really amazing. Is he based on a domitar?

I really love how you did the flyer base!

Thank you! :)

Yes Satarael is based on a Domitar. :)

For the black:

First, the black parts are painted in Chaos Black,

The i highlight the black with a mix of chaos black / white scar (something like 2/1 ).

After that comes the weathering,

First, i do the battle damages in Boltgun Metal (don't remerber the new name) with an old sponge .

Then, i use some Tiphus Corrosion everywhere (on the black and the yellow), and with a tissue, i remove the excess of Tiphus Corrosion.

Add some pigments, and that's all!

Awesome work! Question though - how'd you do the dark silver/black? It looks really good!

Thank you!

What do you mean by dark silver?

If it's the metallic parts, they are made with some Boltgun Metal weathered with oil paint.

And if it's the black, just look above. :)

Yeah, that's much better. Also, the more I look at it, the more I feel that what at first seemed a weak point might in fact be a good thing. I mean, they are so different that, even when unpainted, it is clear that they are made of two completely different materials with completely different textures!
