Blood Shadow
As I recently found out that Games Workshop do not allow people to play 30k in their shops, I've been wondering where you all play your games and find new opponents to crush? Although I don't get to play as often as I would like, gaming has always been a big part of the hobby for me and I would love to start a 30k force, but no one I currently play against has enough interest in 30k to build an army alongside me and i'd rather not build an army (at the moment) just for display Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/327688-finding-opponents/ Share on other sites
BlueBelly1863
I was unaware that GW restricted the playing of 30k games in their stores. Why is this the case? That doesn't make sense to me at all... how could that be a negative for them? Blood Shadow
I was told it is because they dont sell the rulebooks, which i thought was fine as to why they dont hold their own events, but i asked if players could bring their own and play games and the answer was still no Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/327688-finding-opponents/#findComment-4557617 Share on other sites
Sol_Invictus
It must not be a universal rule as my local GW has people who play 30k. They did make a point of saying they "allowed" Forgeworld models in the store which I thought was odd but I guess the rules differ from store to store? olsol
I have played games of 30k at my local club against 40k players... (smashed them BTW) I've never had a problem with playing my NL at GW. maybe it's because the store owner actually has 30k stuff (WE)... Athrawes
It's the managers prerogative, not an "official GW position". And I'm super sorry to hear that for you. For instance the GW store by me has pretty much no problem with 30k. Even though the manager has no love of Forgeword models or armies, he supports our 30k community. Great chap, he hosts 30k Apocalypse games, and is totally behind 30k pick up games in shop. His only stipulation to us is that If we try to get people from the store 'hooked on 30k' we recommend that they start with a Betrayal at Calth set, or Burning of Prospero set purchased in shop, so that they can help support the store with revenue. And honestly, I think that's both eminently fair, and pretty solid advice as both box sets are great ways to start a 30k army. Edit: As for finding 30k players, none of my normal gaming buddies played 30k but through this Forum, Heresy30k and Facebook 30k Groups, I've managed to find about a Dozen 30k gamers scattered about within an hours drive of me. IronDrake28
Buying stuff from FW means you aren't buying from your local GW, even if the money still goes to the main company as a whole. If someone came in and asked where you got your lovely 30k models from you'd be directing them away from the store. My local store allows it, though the manager isn't a fan of FW rules in general. (Though I do like to point out that Tau and Eldar exist. :P) With B@C and BoP I would think it's less of an issue playing small 30k games at GWs now. Blood Shadow
After the replies here I posted a message to a store that is a bit further away than my main one but still within reasonable reach and they allow it, the manager there said the same as Athrawes that it is up to the individual store, glad to hear its not a company wide rule. Thanks for the help Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/327688-finding-opponents/#findComment-4557643 Share on other sites
