grailkeeper
I have some Forgeworld Space Wolves MK 3 shoulder pads that I would like to make press moulds for. Does anyone have any advice or links to tutorials as to how best to do this? SW1
Are you wanting to copy the detail from the pad to add to another existing pad or create completely new pads. I've found "Instant Mold" good for copying details from one pad and transferring it onto another. I've not tried replicating full pads using this stuff though. Can you tell me more about this instant mould? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/327760-shoulder-pad-press-moulds/#findComment-4559992 Share on other sites
SW1
It's a thermoplastic that's flexible like chewing gum when heated and firms up when cool. Your best off just searching on YouTube for a guide. Hrolf the Cunning
How many were you thinking of reproducing? The relevance of this is if it is just a few then instant mould is pretty awesome. If it was squads worth then I think it would be worthwhile investing in a small silicon casting kit. SW1
And this is where the mods close the thread. Adding details from one existing model to another doesn't really upset GWS legal team. Producing or explaining how to reproduce full items will stir up the old hornets nest. grailkeeper
I'm not making my own shoulderpads. Just transferring the wolf symbol on to pre existing pads that I bought from forgeworld, and will buy from the burning of prospero set. Hrolf the Cunning
Sorry I should have been more specific. What I was referring to was two part silicon putties rather than silicon mixes used for full casting which is clearly not what you're after, my bad on not being specific. The putty can be purchased from some craft stores and some dental supply stores. My thinking was that it can be used as a more permanent version of the instant mould if you were planning to get multiple copies of the items. That being said I think the instant mould is great and I use mine a lot and it is significantly cheaper than the silicon stuff I was talking about. Depending where you are based, the brand to search for may vary, in Oz the one that is easiest to get is produced by ModFX. Hrolf the Cunning
The instant mould I was talking about? $12, well worth it http://www.thecombatcompany.com/hobby/sculpting-epoxy-and-putty/modimold-instant-mold/ Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/327760-shoulder-pad-press-moulds/#findComment-4560272 Share on other sites
SW1
I've stamped 100's of pads (mainly SW) with the instant mould. Just make a few stamps at the same time and use one till it starts dropping detail. Mix up enough gs to pop a blob of gs on each pad. Press on each pad with a wet finger so it stays on the pad rather than coming off on your finger. Then start stamping on each pad and don't try to neaten up straight away. Make sure the stamp is wet before each stamp!!! Give it 20 mins or so, then with a wet blade neaten up and remove excess gs. Count Douclar
I'm wandering if this process could be used to turn mkVII pads to mkVI pads. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/327760-shoulder-pad-press-moulds/#findComment-4564229 Share on other sites
Major_Gilbear
I'm wandering if this process could be used to turn mkVII pads to mkVI pads. You mean adding bonding studs to an existing pad? If so, then technically yes. However, there are much more time-efficient ways of just adding studs to shoulder pads than press-moulding; using small beads or pin heads of example. Was thinking along the lines of the smooth one, as I feel triming the edgeds of a mkVII makes the pad look too small. Major_Gilbear
Hmm, you might be better just smoothing a putty like Milliput over the pad rather than making a push-mould; if after about an hour you run the puttied pads under a warm tap and smooth them gently with your finger, you can get *really* smooth finishes that require almost no cleanup when fully cured. Failing that, shave down a mkIV pad from the "Betrayal at Calth" marines instead?
