The Art of War - Thousand Sons Organisation/Favoured Units

How do,

So I'll be honest, I'll more than a few years out of date on the novels side of the HH, so looking at some help from you keeners who have kept up. But this could be a useful project to help inform others, especially when it comes to representing their favourite legions on the battle field.

So I have a slowly WiP Thousand Sons army on the go, but I have no idea of what a typical TS force organisation would look like. Do they favour certain tanks or units of others? Just how many Librarians would they deploy in a battleline in comparison to other leaders, do they favour certain weapon loadouts to others?

Basically my list at the moment would look something like this

Librarian

2x15 Tactical Marines

10 Missile Devestator Squad

10 JP Assault Marines

10 Tartaros Terminators

10 Volkite Caliver Support Marines

But where, from a background PoV would I go from there do folks think?

I'm just starting my own as well, and one thing I really want to include are Landspeeders or possibly attack bikes. Like you said, we don't have much information on favored units or weapons but one of the most iconic ancient Egyptian units was the war chariot and the TS's draw heavily from ancient Egyptian themes. Speeders and attack bikes seem to be the 30k equivalent to chariots. For the same reason I plan to favor power axes over other power weapons and your choice of a volkite caliver squad nicely fits in with Egypt's feared archers.

As a note, one of the BoP tiles features a crashed 1kSons Javelin.

Another good place to look would be Visions of Heresy. There's a great picture of a plasma support squad, and several pictures of assault marines.

There's very little concrete information available right now, I'd hold onto any lore related decisions until Inferno is released next February if I were you. There are bound to be little nuggets of information that weren't circulating prior to FW fleshing out the Legion that may impact how you want to structure your army.

Indeedy,

The suspense is a killer, but I think get these initial troops done, throw in two Sicarian Venators and then see what happens from there.

I need to take my eye of the Dark Angel force I'm planning after the Sons, because I'd like to avoid crossover of units where possible.

So much choice is a blessing and a curse really

I believe someone at the fw open day said the TS relied heavily on automata from a nearby forge world to prospero, which had some kind of psychically tuned crystals in them.

So a praevian with some robots wouldn't be too far-fetched, methinks.

Well that matches with scenes in A Thousand Sons, if true, I wonder if they will use automata of Mechanicum design or if they will have their own uniquely designed ones to differentiate.
