Count Douclar
I don't know if this is the best place to ask, but I was wandering what people's opinion was on using genestealer neophyte, chaos cultists and guard models to represent general cultist/renegade guard units? Ideally they would represent the general troops choices of genstealer cults, lost and the damned and astra militarum armies and hopefully be interchangable between them. Looking at the models, not much conversion work would be needed, mostly just removing cult symbols. But there is the concern of the genestealer like heads of the neophytes and maybe hands. I am asking this, as I have a crap ton of these models (maybe 80 models between them, mostly guard and cultists), but also have an interest in using them to represent the three armies, because of the conversion and creative opportunities the armies offer and fluff. Major_Gilbear
As long as they fit in okay with the army (visually) and have the right weapons, I don't think it'd be a big issue for anyone. Count Douclar
I would ideally keep the squads with like models, but the nature of the army would also be groups coming together (especially for cultists). I have to try it first, before having a visual theme. Tallarn Commander
Count Douclar, many renegades players use cultists and IG models as their renegades infantry. I'm up to 27 renegades troopers now and my force consist of IG and cultist models (I still have a long way to go): http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/topic/321042-tallarn-commanders-night-lords-blog/ With regard to genestealer neophytes, they'd be a great fit too. I went to a tournament last month and discussed this with 2 other chaos players. We all agreed that both types of neophyte hybrids would be a great addition to a renegades force. The more "human" squad has an excellent mask aesthetic that would work well for cultists and you get a flamer and heavy weapon in the box. The more "hybrid" squad works great too. Their gasmask aesthetic, icon (which can easily be chaosified), autoguns, shotguns (great for mutant rabble), heavy stubber, and flamer all work well for renegades. My next renegades purchase will definitely be a box of these chaps. Doghouse
Genestealer cultists make great IG. http://i65.tinypic.com/kbcg7r.jpg You could put together a cult army easily using all those models or even use them for a Holy Imperial Crusade army made up of Ecclesiarchy fanatics and priests, dock workers, militia, etc and then throw in a few priest models to lead them. wilks
I am also interested in this idea using the neophytes. I was thinking of making a Nurgle type of force and was wondering what type of heads could be used that are suitable GW ones or 3rd party bits. Hrolf the Cunning
Wilks, what sort of look do you want for them? Organised military or more degraded? For the latter some of the GW undead kits may have suitable heads (I'm thinking Ghouls). wilks
Thanks Hrolf, I was thinking something more degraded though, to show their allegiance to Nurgle. The genestealer heads are pretty good already looking somewhat swollen but I don't really have much green stuff skill to really transform them enough. perhaps maybe hooded heads could work?
