The Loyalists

~Tell them the Angels of Death have come,

Tell them nothing can save them now.~

Hi all, since completing my fairly hefty Word Bearers Legion, I've been pondering where to go next. When I started this aspect of the hobby back during book one I had an Emperors Children / Sons of Horus army. The were loyalists, survivors of the virus bombardment of Istvaan III. They took battle against the traitors on that accursed world and all died heroic and tragic deaths. However, I've been drawn back to the idea of loaylists from the ranks of the Traitors and I want to make a Zone Mortalis force I can use. I'm going to make use of the Battle of Prospero box and make additions as I continue on. So in that regard, I have a Praetor and a Veteran Sergeant painted so far.

My plan is to get some of those funky new bases that  GW have released to give them that ZM vibe. The army will be based around a hit and run theme, perhaps a lone ship that preys on Traitor vessels cut off from the fleets.

Any how I hope I'll be able to add to this log regularly and build up a force of raiders that look like they no what they doing, even if I don't!

Thank,

Rob

Hiya yeah it's a lovely dropper bottle. The coverage is great too. I got the Sgt. for my 2nd Vet squad done tonight, I figure nothing says "open up", like giant fist on the end of a genetically engineered killing machine.

@noigrim : noted, one plasma support squad on the way. biggrin.png

Hi,

I've spent the afternoon working on the my Veterans. These brothers will form part of my 1st Squad. I decided on plasma as the special weapon as I figured the Thunderhammer Sgt. should be able to deal with bulkheads and such. The next 2 marines will probably be a meltagun and bolter, for the 2nd squad. I'm currently looking at the SoH transfer sheets on Forge World for legion symbols and such but I'm a bit wary of transfers as I always struggle with decals on shoulder pads. Has any one had any experience with the FW transfers?

Morning all,

I couldn't sleep tonight so I worked on some more Veterans. I've now got a Heavy Flamer toting Vet to warm up those cold corridors. And a Power Sword wielding Vet. I think now GW has figured out how to make a slung bolter bit that fits, they need to start mass producing them. I'd drop a few quid on a sprue of slung bolters.

The next Vet I'm working on has a power axe. Because, axes look cool. tongue.png

Thanks,

Rob

Cheers Kizzdougs, I love your log over in the WIP section. Soo much inspiration there.

I worked on my Axeman this evening.

He's pretty basic really, it's the Space Wolf Thunder Hammer with a Marauder Axe head thrown on top.

Thanks,
Rob

As others have said, very nice axe and axe-head. Also some nice blending on the sword above; and a good use of the CSM bolter on yer axeman.

If I might ask .. which Marauder kit specifically (horsemen or on foot) did the axehead come from? I'm always on the lookout for cool axes to use for my VIth.

Thanks all, it keeps the motivation high. biggrin.png

Ryltar Thamior : It cam from the Horsemen I believe. I love that kit, as there's loads of little bits and bobs on it.

BasetheRuin : I had thought about it but on my first SoH force I used Nuln Oil and sort of stuck with what I new. I might give a try though and see how it comes out.

Oooo giving this a follow! The green certainly looks great. Love the idea of SoH loyalists, Ive thought about dabbling in them a bit as well. I also really like how a lot of the models just give off a sense of character, that's special.

The running legs on the vet sarge, are those from the anniversary special edition marine guy? tongue.png

Thanks man, I know what you mean about real life, it keeps getting in the way and ruining my hobby time.

I got my tactical support squad finished tonight, I really should have gone to bed and got a decent nights sleep but I'm desperately trying to get a small force together for Sunday. Three more terminators and I'll be ready.

I had to make up some bases with some sprue and the extra armour from a panzer IV.
