Drider
TLDR Current version Possibly the final version. https://tinkercad.co...ngs/3i2TlQTAIs8 Pictures uploaded. http://imgur.com/a/KEg6E ----original post---Has anyone been able to find or make the sisters vehicle top plate for the immo/exo in CAD suitable for 3d printing in .STL format? I'm trying to have a go at creating a model for it myself but I thought i'd come on here and ask if anyone else had had a go. Or if anyone knows exact dimention/angles because i'm kinda guessing on some of them.Edit.Well, after a few hours of playing around with some basic CAD this was my best attempt at getting the basic shape. https://tinkercad.com/things/56R7M8YAmsd With any luck it'll be quiet enough at work tomorrow for me to talk to the boss and arrange some play time with the 3D printer to see how a test print will look and if the printer can cope with a bit more detail. Rasp
Wow! Completely above my head, but that looks pretty good. Would love to see the finished product. Drider
Got a prototype printed off today, there's a few small issues that need to be corrected (it's not sitting perfectly) but on the whole it's looking pretty good. Printed it on fast rubbish quality and it still turned out looking good, which means the printer should be able to handle all the major details. Warsmith Aznable
Folks could get a couple more Immolators from Exorcist kits this way. Good stuff. Drider
New version with more detail... but I seem to have some how developed some artifacts in the cad when using the 3D view, but arn't there when i'm working on it, which I can't seem to get rid of. Got rid of the artifacts! https://tinkercad.com/things/8qQ5DQsvkRf Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/328129-3d-printed-vehicle-top-plate/#findComment-4571939 Share on other sites
ValourousHeart
That looks really good... amazing is probably a better assessment. When you are done with this, do you think is possible to replicate the clear canopy? I am certain that I won't be the only one very interested in that component. Drider
Hmm. As far as I know there isn't a way to print transparent plastic. So the whole thing would be opaque or it would have to be the frame and a bit of inventiveness to find something transparent to sit behind it. The other problem is that I personally don't have the canopy so id need to find or be provided with several good pictures and/or exact sizes of the shapes that make it up. ...or if have to just best guess it. ValourousHeart
Well it was worth a shot. I have 3 Immolator tops and 3 Rhino tops that need those canopies, but I only have 1 canopy. Any recommendations for how to make more would be greatly apprecated. A.T.
Hmm. As far as I know there isn't a way to print transparent plastic. I've seen transparent plastic/resin printing services, I don't know how many small scale 3d printers would accept the material though. Drider
I've done a print of the latest version. It's mostly ok but the finer details haven't held up well even on the fine quality setting anything 1mm or smaller haven't held up all that well although I suspect that's more to do with the constraints of the printer rather than the 3d model. I'll post pictures when I get home from work. Possibly the final version. https://tinkercad.com/things/3i2TlQTAIs8 Pictures uploaded. http://imgur.com/a/KEg6E Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/328129-3d-printed-vehicle-top-plate/#findComment-4573637 Share on other sites
tvih
Seems quite usable at the very least! Aside from a few of those clear canopies, wouldn't mind having an additional top piece, but alas - no 3D printer. Drider
In the link for the 3D model the is a button to order the print with the option of several different websites to order from or you could shop around a bit for a 3d printing service. Sume
Thats cool. I am right now trying to make some press molds for the clear canopy. I need like 3 more. I was going to paint them up like the glass I did on my tank and leave these ones in the bolter option and use the clear ones after being painted of course in the immolator gun chair. Have no success yet with the instant mold so far. True, but the cost of ordering is a bit on the high side, considering postage and all. Ah well, I hope they will bring back the official set soon too. Servant of Dante
This is cool! I'll probably take to easy way and just keep kitbashing rhinos, but impressive stuff! Drider
So i tried a bit of vapor smoothing on the prototype print of that part. it's worked out a lot better than i expected it would. it's come out very smooth and with a glassy finish. you can still see some of the ridges from the print underneath the finish but once it's primed and painted it should look pretty damn good.
