Paulinus
Ok so this is an expensive build. Land raider Battle Squadron Land Raider Phobos- Command Tank, Ceramite Armour Land Raider Proteus- Explorator Aug., Ceramite Armour Land Raider Proteus- Ceramite Armour Over 700pts. The whole unit can scout or outflank, delivering one solid assault unit and a couple of shooty units as well. 3 Landraiders will be difficult to pop in one turn and as a squadron can be placed so that the tank you want to keep safe comes out relatively unscathed for a few turns. Tank hunter for it is nice too. Points sink I think but would probably give an opponent some headaches. Might try it out. Lord Asvaldir
Recon company requires that heavy supports start in reserves, so that doesn't work. I think this idea would only really work is if you had some reserve manipulation, because you don't want such a gigantic points sink to be sitting off the board till turn 3, and if you have 3 units that would be ideal for outflanking in land raiders. Veterans or seekers probably fit that bill fairly well, since they can take plenty of combi weapons and have some pretty heavy firepower on the turn they show up. Overall though I don't think outflanking land raiders is all that useful. The best units to outflank are units with a lot of close range firepower like seekers, since they don't have to assault on the turn they show up but do need to get within rapid fire range or closer, but a rhino is just as good as a land raider in that case, since the transport your outflanking in won't be shot at until it shows up, and by then your unit has already disembarked. Now yes rhinos can't get outflank normally unless your AL or RG, or have the right warlord trait, but I don't think spending 700pts on land raiders is worth it just to outflank a few units. Paulinus
Unfortunately heavy support units must start in reserve with that ROW. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/328175-land-raider-battle-squadron/#findComment-4572580 Share on other sites
Paulinus
Outflanking may not be the best use but certainly the 12" scout move would be. especially if you are delivering a Primarch with a solid bodyguard or an assault centric unit. Sets you up nicely for a turn two charge. You could outflank vets in Rhinos though with marksmen. The key is to have a few other things that either distract or cause havoc while the LRs advance into the enemy face. RandomMarine
IH using hotg would be a good option Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/328175-land-raider-battle-squadron/#findComment-4572730 Share on other sites
Cadmus Tyro
Landraiders outflanking is risky, when I play HotG I find cheap units are best outflanking, it means you have more points on the table. Vindicators for some psychological warfare/damage output and rhino tacticals for objectives etc seem to work for me. For a landraider build how about this: X3 lander proteus, armoured ceramite, hull mounted twin lascannons + Castreman Orth = 770pts 9 twin linked lascannon shots with tank hunter, plus the transport capability of the squad. A big points investment though! Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/328175-land-raider-battle-squadron/#findComment-4572831 Share on other sites
RandomMarine
In a game with primarch star 770 for 9 twinlinked lascanons on 3 av14 chassis isn't to expensive Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/328175-land-raider-battle-squadron/#findComment-4573154 Share on other sites
Cadmus Tyro
True, but is the damage output equivilent? I think the value of their protective transport capability is one of heir best assets. The only thing I would worry about is grav, so perhaps you would need something to deal with rapier efficiently. What units would you transport?
