misterkho
hey fella's So i've finally started with my deathguard with the BOP box and now i'm looking to give them wat more flavour and background. I do like the idea of keeping close to their backgrounds so i'd like to get as much info on them as possible. Can you recommend any books to me which give a good insight to the Deathward? loyalist or traitor side? Any help would be much appreciated! Lord_Ikka
The Flight of the Eisenstein would probably be the best for pre-Heresy/loyalist DG. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/328195-deathguard-books/#findComment-4573442 Share on other sites

Calas Typhon
Ghosts Speak Not/Patience and Distant Echoes of Old night are the two I really swear by, Both are fantastic reads, the latter has some detail on the overall sort of feel in how the Death Guard make war which I thought was pretty great. misterkho
ah great!! Deathguard are known for being an army of attrition..lots of infantry and simply grinding forward. But i'm hoping to find some pieces that they use different tactics and how the legion reacts to a change of combat style. Distant Echoes focuses more on the Zone Mortalis side of things with the use of a Destroyer section and Chaplain, definitely recommend it. Noserenda
I was very inspired by the Deathguard in Deathfire, though they are antagonists and they do make some... Questionable choices :/ Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/328195-deathguard-books/#findComment-4574052 Share on other sites
Marshal Loss
Read Scars, Daemonology, and more importantly, Path of Heaven - in that order. Best depictions of DG in the setting, even if they aren't the main players. Also mandatory reading is Book 1: Betrayal. It has an excellent summary of the DG's lore, fighting style, history of their union with Mortarion and more. Candleshoes
Marshal is on point with Scars and Path of Heaven, which feature the Deathguard (Mortarion primarily) and give some excellent insight into his headspace. Vengeful Spirit also features the legion and the primarch as supporting players, but has some nice interactions with Horus. RandomMarine
Scars and path of heaven are IMO the best duology in the entire hh series. Covers relatively lacking lacking in fluff legions and shows us that the imperial webway was nearly finished and much larger than previously thought. Add VS to the list as this fine sir suggests, I forgot that the events in VS actually predate Path of Heaven and tie in with Daemonology. Also, read the short story 'Blackshield' - it deals with some rogue DG. It's brilliant.
