Nice looking Blood Angels. May I suggest that you look into an online tutorial for painting gems? If you leave them roughly 1/3rd black and follow some basic "gem painting protocols" they can really "pop" and push any model that little but further toward "impressive" ...also, do assault termis usually wear yellow helmets? Thought that was a FA thing? Or is that specific to your OWN chapter of BA? Finally, I'd consider another "hot-spot" highlight on your reds... Gw sure makes some fine Red paints, the best in the biz in my opinion. Cheers! Sorry for the critique if that's not exactly what 'yer after

Thank you all for the kind words.

I'll upload some more pictures if you are interested.

Critique is always welcome. I do appreciate when people actually take time to write down their suggestions.

I have to admit though, that I usually stay away from drastic changes, because I'm pretty obsessed with consistency. My primary goal is to make these models look like they derive from the same batch.

Does this negatively affect my progress as a painter? Yes.

Does it lead to a situation where I still do the mediocre edge highlighting, or the excessive use of washes that you can see on those models? Yes.

But still I can't bring myself to make the required changes, because I'm afraid to spend hours on a unit of models, just to realize that they don't "fit" into my existing army.

I'll definitely try to improve my gem game on a non-Blood Angel miniature in the near future, though.

; )

Concerning the helmets. I really can't remember why I painted them yellow. Could be that this is not how they are officially supposed to look like, but it nicely breaks up the reds a bit.
