Horus Heresy Limited Edition vs Hardback?

So I have the Wolf King and Sons of the Forge Limited Editions, but I am not seeing a difference between them. Either I don't have the Limited Editions or the pictures I am seeing are note Hardbacks but the Limited Editions. CAn anyone tell me if there is a difference? Thank you.

The Magnus Primarch book gives a good idea as to what LEs offer  that is different from other books.

They do have different covers in the main, think the Sons of Forge is scaled?

Yeah the Sons of the Forge is scaled, and the Wolf King is a industrial metal look with a red wolf head.

The Limited Editions are numbered and signed. Additionally, their covers are special. The Salamanders ones are all scaled, Aurellian is covered in script from the Book of Lorgar, the Tallarn ones are industrial like. Every one of them has its own thing.

The hardbacks you can buy now, aren't numbered or signed, and their covers are just the same as the illustration on the dust jacket, just without the title or author.

it really does depend from book to book.
Most of the time it's a specially clad cover. Other's there may be artwork, sometimes you may get additional content (such as an additional short story), but the only universal thing is that it will be numbered and signed by the author.

At Black Library Live I picked up the special edition of Primogenitor, but I wasn't initially planning to. I picked it up because the cover of the book was absolutely stunning, and that was the only way to get it. Upon opening it I've found that it has a short story (The Howling Ship) that I don't think is in the regular edition, but it still is a fascinatingly looking book. I mean, look at it:

Primogenitor is AWESOME - both as a Limited and as a story. Totally worth every penny!

m_r_parker you are a lucky owner of a masterpiece ;)

I don't know if it is my head trying to justify the stupid prices of the LE versions, but the quality of the paper seems higher- I re-read 'The Crimson Fist' after 'Sons of the Forge' the other day, and think there was a difference in how the pages felt

I think "stupid prices" are subjective, but still.

BL has changed printers since TCF. So I think SOTF is the same production values as the more recent square-spined HH hardbacks. They do feel much more substantial, and better quality in general.

(And I hope you all noticed, the hardbacks are all now £20 instead of the bigger ones being £25. Better quality, for no extra cost. You're welcome!)

Maybe 'stupid prices' was bad phrasing on my part.

If there is a LE version of a book I want to read from BL, I'll buy it- and I want to read most of them. I'm happy to pay the increased price vs the regular edition because they are such lovely objects- they feel so nice in the hand and look nice on my shelf. I'm lucky to have enough disposable income to be able to afford this without really thinking about buying them. Despite this when I get each one in the post, I spend a good while with the book in my hand- feeling the cover, the weight of the paper, smelling the materials (I can't be the only one who does that, can I?....) and that process is to justify to myself that I made a prudent purchase. Even if, when I'm entirely honest I'd probably enjoy the content just as much if I'd bought the regular ebook version.

But 'stupid prices' was easier and quicker to type.

I totally understood what you meant. We're all book nerds, at the end of the day.

My favourite limited edition so far was 'Garro: Vow of Faith'. The colour section was a real treat, with lots of cool canon hints and nice spreads.

The best limited ever would be 'Purge', because it's that awesome Laurie!

Ooh, yes - 'The Purge' was also very good. The red paint being smeared over the grey, engraved ceramite was quite spooky.

Delicious! But yeah 'Garro: Vow of Faith' had some good points too. Latest Fabius by the way is GLORIES! msn-wink.gif

Purge was my fav limited ed. presentation so far. It's like...we just had this conversation recently, HeritorA :)
