Strata
I hadn't seen anyone else start this yet, so i figured i would go ahead and see how things work out. Seeing that the new Rubrics are based off of the Mk4 Armour, i figured, it might be worthwhile to mix between the two kits and see what the results are. So far, i've only gotten the legs attached to their bases, but i did take a mock up with two torso's attached to opposing sets of legs. One thing became clear almost instantly. The Rubric legs are taller then their counterparts, Its most likely due to the positioning of the legs, and their pose. But what i wonder now, is if anyone thinks, once they are fully assembled and painted, the difference will be noticeable? http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2016/12/8/843083_sm-Size%20by%20side.JPG Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/328568-rubrics-plus-mk4/ Share on other sites
Tyberos the Red Wake
I have Mk IV kits from Forge World, which include running and standing legs, resulting in taller marines. The result isn't really noticeable, especially because runners lean forward. Guys standing tall will be slightly taller than others, but it's not really noticeable. You can also use Mk III backpacks to even out the height because they stick up over the helmet. One word of warning: if you use foam trays shallower than 1.5" and put your models in them upright instead of lying down, a standing Marine with a Mk III backpack will have his backpack poke out of the foam. Noserenda
I think its the paintjob which will show it up, the Rubrics have tonnes of bling and the mk4's basically none. Athrawes
Here is a comparison I did: http://i1088.photobucket.com/albums/i327/nickfayette1/2401fdac-fcc7-4c10-9033-d10c51107f7d.jpg When painted, the height difference and level of ornamentation blends in with stock mk IV marines. At least to me. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/328568-rubrics-plus-mk4/#findComment-4586124 Share on other sites
Charlo
Blends perfectly if you ask me. So much so, I'm totally doing this. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/328568-rubrics-plus-mk4/#findComment-4586424 Share on other sites
Strata
Thanks for the comparison athrawes. While the height difference is still noticable, like you said, when fully painted up, it doesn't seem as out of place, not like while it's unpainted, and unbuilt. I'm not too concerned over ornamentation, not with mixing the kits. I do have to say, the rubrics look amazing in your colors. Now I'll have to do a tester of red, and one blue to see which I like better. SW1
I'm looking to combine on mass the mk4 and mk3 with SW plastics. From what I've already played around with (mainly just gluing legs and chests together like you have) there is a bit of variation but it makes the Marines more believable. All the BL stories contain descriptive bits about how different Marines have differing statures. So variation in height would happen. IMO it works well and should be encouraged. ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/328568-rubrics-plus-mk4/#findComment-4586962 Share on other sites
Strata
I have the first ten built up with the mixed of rubric and mk4. Im still sitting on the fence as to if i like the mix or not. http://images.dakkadakka.com/gallery/2016/12/10/843496_sm-Rubrics%252FMk4.JPG Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/328568-rubrics-plus-mk4/#findComment-4588470 Share on other sites
Atia
From what I can make out from the pictures, the only real difference are the legs, right? The chest and arms/heads are the same size as the BaC mark IV? If so, just don't mix the legs between the different kits ^^ Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/328568-rubrics-plus-mk4/#findComment-4588693 Share on other sites

What I think I will end up doing is painting up several figures and then see how they look side by side. It's interesting what a paint job will do for a set of figures. Lord_Ikka
I think they are close enough, especially painted, to have a negligible impact visually. In fact, it would actually be more canon, as there was quite a difference in height between some marines- like Abaddon being extremely large or the Alpha Legion in general being fairly tall to cover for their small-ish Primarch(s).
