Varyn
Hey guys After building a 3500 point Sons of Horus army, I am thinking about starting an Alpha Legion force. I love the mystery surrounding the legion, the shifting tactics and unorthodox methods of warfare. This is my first go at a coils list, feedback is much appreciated RoW: Coils of the Hydra - 2000 points HQ Armillus Dynat Elites (rewards of treason) 8 Suzerain, 2 thunderhammers 5 Lernaean terminators, 2 chainfists Troops 10 tactical marines, vexilla, artificer armour, melta bombs 10 tactical marines, vexilla, artificer armour, melta bombs 10 tactical marines, vexilla, artificer armour, melta bombs Fast attack 3 attack bikes, multimeltas, melta bombs 3 scimitar jetbikes, volkite culverin, melta bombs 3 scimitar jetbikes, volkite culverin, melta bombs Heavy Support Sicaran battle tank, lascannon sponsons Whirlwind scorpius I'd be using infiltrate for my mutable tactics choice. Dynat deep strikes with the suzerain, the rest advances and shoots stuff! with the fast stuff attacking the flanks. That's the basic strategy Thanks for reading and I look forward to your comments and suggestions (I haven't bought any of this yet so it's no problem changing units) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/328648-2000-points-coils-of-the-hydra/ Share on other sites
Caillum
Suzerains are a strong Rewards of Treason choice. I'm about to model some up myself. Note that every model must have the Deep Strike rule in order to do it. Dynat won't have it, so he can't Deep Strike with them. Having said all that, I wouldn't actually Deep Strike a combat unit like Suzerains, but instead put them in a LR Phobos. Will have to drop something to pay for that though. With Dynat's Hammerstrike Assault WT, a shooting unit will be much more effective, especially if you can combine it with Dynat's "The Harrowing" rule. Consider swapping the Lernaeans for some combi-melta Cataphractii for this exact purpose. Finally, given FAQgate, I'd drop all the melta bombs from the bikes/jetbikes. Unknown Legionnaire
Dynat deep strikes with the suzerain, ... He can't. His ability bestows the DS rule upon one unit, but not himself, and DS doesn't transfer from units to ICs or vice versa. Varyn
Thanks for the clarification on dynat's warlord trait. I'll have to rethink that a bit and maybe put him in a pod, I want to get him into the backline asap Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/328648-2000-points-coils-of-the-hydra/#findComment-4589551 Share on other sites
Withershadow
Deep striking suzerain outside of a pod seems like a bad idea anyway. They would be clumped up and rife for enemy fire, where they are vulnerable the most (only 6++). You should put them in a Dreadclaw. Also, despite his WS6 and "Weapon Master", Dynat isn't that capable in close combat. He goes splat from a power fist with one failed 4+ saving throw, and even with a power dagger only has the same number of attacks as a naked standard Praetor (who can get up to 6 with digilasers and two specialist weapons). He does have a cognis signum, though, so he also fits well with veteran marksmen or tactical support squads to give them BS5.
