Fluff question - Deamonkin during Heresy?

Hey lads,

Got a question concerning Daemonkin, most notably those of Khorne.

As far as I know, only the WB got possessed units with the Gal Vorbak and the like. And only because of the schemes and manipulation a of said WB were others drawn to chaos as well like Angron, correct?

Despite the odds, I do believe that there could've been other Daemonkin out there. Most notably Khorne as the Heresy would be for him like Christmas, thanksgiving and birthday on the same day. Therefore, I'm curious if there maybe other possessed or demonically incursions I might have missed.

Why I'm asking?

I'm thinking about creating a KDK in its very first hours during our Insurrection project. Not a full demon one as that would need some time but a force dedicated to Khorne and hopefully without going the Blood for the Blood God shrnanigans road most of the KDK went down.

More like a SM version of the Blood Pact, you know?

Thanks!

For really reals. I think the world's probably your oyster in that regard.

It's all over the artwork, so - and please let me stress that this is just a guess based on the lore - it wouldn't surprise me that as the Forge World books go on, and as we get closer to Terra, we see more daemonic models and units spread across the Traitors.

We know that Plague Marines were at the Siege of Terra, for example, given what happens to the Death Guard before they even arrive. And loads of mutated Marines are in the artwork on Terra. An easy example is that Delvarus, in Betrayer, gets his name from the image of "Delvarus Possessed Squad" in the Siege. That kinda thing.

Sorry but I didn't get the oister phrase.

Haven't heard that before. But never mind. :)

Thanks. Haven't had a look on most of the heresy art. Didn't knew that there were plague marines as well.

What about "reasonable" Khorne followers? As you (ADB) are one of the behind the scenes guys, do you if that would still be possible like Dan did with his Blood Pact army?

Or is everything related to Khorne just about BLOOD, SKULLS, KHOOOORNE these days? I would rather depict him as God of war than as God of slaughter.

Betrayer is still on my to do list but yeah, I might have heard about his fate. ;)

Maybe I used the wrong terms. Not looking for a Kratos version but rather one who likes strategies, waging a true war instead of a headless charge.

Like he was depicted in the first editions. :)

Aaron already pointed it out - chaosy or daemon forces where pretty common during the last years of the heresy, especially during the Siege. All of the four cult legions were pretty much like in 40k already - World Eaters had red armoured berserkers, Emperors Children had Noise Marines since Istvaan, Death Guard was already 100% Plague Marines, and the Thousand Sons either started to mutate or were already rubrics (we never got a date for the rubric sadly ....). Word Bearers were full chaos since Istvaan tongue.png

That said - there are no "other Daemonkin". The name daemonkin only applies to some Khorne warbands :X

The Imperium had come into contact with Daemons during the Great Crusade. At the conference of Nikea, Mortarion describes the XIVth battling Khorne Daemons in a detailed fashion. We know that Daemon are popping up everywhere in the 500 Worlds of Ultrmar, as they were on Signus Prime. Word Bearers in the game itself can take Daemons as Battle Brother allies. Also, I believe they were full Chaos much before Isstvan, they just hid it very well.

In Vengeful Spirit, Maloghurst creates the Sons of Horus possessed elite, the Luperci - 'brothers of the wolf'. From conversations at the Weekender, all the Traitor Legions will get access to more daemonic units as time goes on, possessed included, although who knows what the specifics will be when it eventually happens. The Word Bearers are just the chaps who get the first (and most powerful) possessed, and who have a particular affinity with it.

Your premise sounds totally fine to me, go for it
