The 4th Bailan Jaegers

Captain Titus

Recommended Posts

Hi there, previously I had a thread where I was asking advice on what to buy for my £100 budget.

Well... That budget went out the window as I spent nearly double on Wayland Games.

At last, after three weeks, my order has arrived (apart from one item which they havent recieved from their supplier yet) and I can finally get cracking on restarting my IG army!

reinforcements have arrived

I plan on painting my new forces in an inverted Cadian style. Khaki coloured armour and Green fatigues.

imperialguard

Looking forward to building and painting these models. This thread will be more of a WIP thread as most of the fluff will be in the Baltus Sector Crusade in the Liber Astartes forum.

Thanks.

Care to explain a bit your choice of purchases? I'm curious as to why you have chosen to buy a Hydra right off the bat. What is your army list going to look like? Any specific reason why didn't you go for the AM:Start Collecting box?

I myself have a small army of AM (roughly 1100 pts), so I'm always interested in other starting AM armies.

I already had a small IG army from 2008 which consists of:

Tank Commander - Command Punisher (Pask)

                              - Battle Tank

Infantry Platoon - PCS

                          - 2 Infantry Squads

                          - Heavy Weapons Squad (1 Lascannon and 2 Mortars)

1 Scout Sentinel

1 Valkyrie

1 Aegis Defence Line - Quad Gun

Then from my order I plan on adding:

1 CCS

1 MT Platoon - Command Squad

                      - 1 Scion squad

1 Veteran Squad in Chimera

1 Wyvern Battery

With no add-ons, this is around 1400 points. I also have plans to order an AM Start Collecting Box, a Basilisk and another Infantry Squad from Amazon in January.

EDIT: The CCS will have General Myndoras Odon

Hey guys, I have a quick question about Veteran squads and I can't seem to find my codex:

How many melta's can a veteran squad take?

They can take 2 and a heavy flamer or 3 and no heavy flamer

Thanks so much, I'm not sure if I should use two melta's and a heavy flamer or three melta's

Depends on your intended role. 2 meltas and a heavy flamer is a good all rounder, BS4 with 2 meltas offers good odds at taking on armour and swapping to the flamer for some BBQs offers respectable flexibility against infantry as well as a bit of counter-charge power. It's also a good build if you plan to stay mechanised as you can only fire 2 weapons from a Chimera's hatch.

Ok, so I have built most of my new forces, the only thing left is the Wyvern.

I have a HoR: Kill Team match coming up tomorrow and it is likely that I will face inquisition.

I want to test out my new units so I was thinking of using:

HQ

-Tempestus Prime

Elite

-3 Scions (1xPlasma and 1xMelta)

Troops

-2 Veteran Squads of 5 men

Transport

-Chimera

I haven't fully decided the list on BattleScribe yet.

In the last match my opponent brought:

1 Inquisitor (Power Armour)

2 Veteran Acolytes (2x Power Armour)

5 Psykers (their psychic barrage is good at killing squads

2x 5 Warrior Acolytes

It is likely that he will be using something similar but with some servitors for AT power.

Anyone have any idea how to combat this?

Against such a list you're fairly well set, just a case of putting out enough damage to take them down. Your Scions will be able to tackle the 3+ saves easily enough, so expect your opponent to react accordingly. The Chimera might be crucial to victory but don't forget your opponent could do something quite different this time! Good luck :tu:

My battle went much better than the previous two, I actually had a chance of winning that one.

My opponent ran a list close to the one I had expected:

-1 Inquisitor in Power Armour with a flamer thing

-4 Psyker guys

-4x 5 man Acolyte squads

-1x Priest guy

His entire force only had 1 melta as he had expected to be facing lots of guardsmen.

My force was exactly as in my previous post.

We were playing the HoR: Kill Team Doomsday Device mission.

Turn 1

My opponent started off first. There was very little shooting on his part as had kept most of my units behind cover and in the Chimera. He moved his only melta up to take a shot at my Chimera but he failed to hit.

In my turn, very little happened, I wiped out the melta guys squad with the chimera and then consolidated my position in the corner.

I had decided to set up in a small, easily defendable corner of the board, near a potential objective.

Turn 2

This turn was a little bit more eventful as one of my Scions was killed by that darn Psychic blast thing! In return, I killed his Priest and 2 Acolytes.

My opponent was beginning to become frustrated that my guardsmen refused to exit the Chimera!

Turn 3

My opponent killed another Scion who was stopping his inquisitor from reaching the Chimera and using the melta bomb. To retaliate, my Chimera killed another 3 acolytes and the lasgun arrays took a wound of the Inquisitor.

Turn 4

My opponent rushed the objective closest to me with the remains of one of the acolyte squads and quickly discovered that it was not the Doomsday device. The last remaining objective, became the doomsday device by default. His Inquisitor failed to charge my Chimera with the melta bomb.

I quickly dispatched the Inquisitor with the multilaser on the Chimera and the Heavy bolter killed the two acolytes who had rushed the objective. My last Scion, who had made his way around the table to kill the Psykers, so that I could finally disembark my veterans, failed. He missed his shots...

Turn 5

My opponent moved in the last full squad of Acolytes to block my Tempestor Prime who was moving towards the Doomsday device. His Psykers charged my last Scion and killed him in melee, my rolls failed me.

My Chimera moved up and killed the 5 acolytes who were trying to block my tempestor prime.

Sadly, my opponent managed to roll a 6 for the Doomsday device and the game ended as a loss for me.

Next time, I will have to be more aggressive with the objectives so that the final one is not in his side of the table.

I honk my list worked well as he was able to only kill 3 scions while I wiped out over half of his force.

An update on the Guard:

I only have the Wyvern left to build.

I used an old guardsman as a test model and I am very pleased with the results because my painting skills are bellow tabletop quality (this might have had something to do with the fact that this was the first time that I have ever watered down my paints.) I will post a picture later when I can get on the computer.

Merry Christmas everyone!

  • 1 month later...

Sorry for the inactivity, I've been up to my eyeballs in controlled assessment.

To get me back on track I've got an AM Start Collecting box and a guardsman box, with a Tank Command box and some new paintbrushes on the way.

I can build an army in a few days but it will take me 10 years to paint them.

Due to miscommunication between Amazon and a supplier, my order of a Leman Russ Tech command was cancelled because the supplier had none left (but they didn't change it to Out of Stock on Amazon).

I've ordered another Start Collecting box for slightly cheaper though.

Hopefully I will be able to get the photo of my test model up tomorrow if I have time.
