Knights Errant equipment and force size

Recommended Posts

I am looking at building a small Knights Errant (try and do named characters) force lead by Garro. Did they have any access to legion equipment such as transport vechiles? I assume they would of had thunderhawks or stormbirds but what about ground tanks?

Also would a non metallic grey scheme work for them?

The thing to remember about the Knights Errant is that they were hand picked for their special abilities that made them more useful outside the Legion structure. They were diplomats, assassins and spies. To hurl a bunch of them into battle deliberately would be a waste of resources, if you want that send in the Legions. Likewise why have a skilled saboteur or agent driving a tank. Not that I don't think your force couldn't work/wouldn't be cool, I think it's a great idea. But what I would recommend is having allies make up a lot of the army, with the knights as the leaders and specialists. A cool strike force might be some kind of mortal soldiery (maybe in grey with the =I= icon) with Garro leading, a sneaky knight, a psyker knight, a couple of beatstick knights and maybe a squad of custodians for punch. The kind of force Malcador might send to retrieve something important or kill something dangerous. As a rule, Knights Errant are like inquisitors, they turn up, requisition the nearest loyal forces, borrow their gear if necessary and keep a low profile until they need to strike. As to the paint scheme I have always had a soft spot for non metallic greys. The new metallic colour schemes FW are doing are fun, but they don't need to dominate.

Well my original idea was to have a few knights errant with some help from loyalist terminators in a Mastodon. But what scheme would the mostodon be, knight errants colours or the borrowed legion colours?

This is more a hobby project than legitimate force.

I would probably say put the Mastodon in allied legion colours. As a vehicle it makes more sense for armies that can throw large numbers of troops at an enemy. Balancing that is that the Mastodon is a fantastic kit, and one in grey with knight errant symbols would look amazing. At the end of the day they're your dudes and you can do with them as you will, but I think a Mastodon doesn't fit very well with a force who normally number under 10 in any war zone.

The way i was seeing it that they could use the mastodon (I already own one) as a base of operations and command center as its extra room could hold gear and better communication equipment so wouldn't have to be packed with 40+ troops.

I could also see its valid use in breaking through fortifications to get them where they need to be.
