Claws and Effect
I'm working on a kill team to play Heralds of Ruin and want to make a Librarian my team leader. Just one problem, I don't have a Librarian model, so I had to kitbash one using a Sternguard model. I'm fairly happy with how it's going so far, but the lack of a psychic hood is bugging me. I'd like to attach it to his armor so it extends up over his head. Any ideas for something I could use from around the house to convert? I'd like to avoid green stuff if possible. I suck with it and want this guy to look nice. I'll practice with green stuff on other things that are less important. RikuEru
Somewhere on the B&C is DEFINITELY a guide on how to easily carve one from a left over blank shoulderplate. Easy to do. (Sorry I can't properly search for it right now, I'm just on my mobile phone) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/329079-suggestion-for-psychic-hood-conversion/#findComment-4601610 Share on other sites
bloodhound23
You could always try the back half of a power-armored Grey Knight torso. sockwithaticket
The shoulderpad method is easy, but, imo, it looks exactly like what it is: a shoulder pad cut to resemble a psychich hood. Some people add cabling and green stuff which helps sell it more, still not great, though.Instead, get thyself to a bits site/ebay and purchase a Grey Knight torso back, comes with a Psychic hood built in. Boom, easy. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/329079-suggestion-for-psychic-hood-conversion/#findComment-4601643 Share on other sites
AndrewChristlieb
I did the shoulder pad idea on mine. It's pretty easy to cut it into the correct shape, but it does still look like a pad cut to shape so I added a greenstuff mane too it (Celestial Lions) and some cables and whatnot to help cover it up. Stercus
I used the padded stock from a plasma gun for mine. There should be a picture somewhere if you follow the link in my signature. Claws and Effect
I've already assembled the torso and posed the arms, so I really don't want to test it apart to add a bit I still need to buy. I tried the shoulder pad idea and it turned out terrible. Was hoping someone had some genius idea utilizing a common household object. Ah well, back to the drawing board. I'll share whatever I come up with. SW1
Maybe use a pad as a mould to create a thin gs shell? Then trim to shape afterwards. Or a trimmed down part of a kinder egg? You just need something thin that's got the right curve to it. AndrewChristlieb
You could always go for something else entirely too. An icon maybe or a modified iron halo? Google search of inspiration, I've seen a few different alternatives. Claws and Effect
I have an idea, I just need to figure out how to do it. My Librarian is going to be Raven Guard, so I'd like to incorporate a corvid skull in the hood. Just need to acquire one and figure out how to do it. madscuzzy
Why not do a custom and incorporate it into say, the jump pack? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/329079-suggestion-for-psychic-hood-conversion/#findComment-4603890 Share on other sites
Claws and Effect
Okay, so I caved in and did the spare pauldron technique. Looks okay-ish as is, but I have a plan involving a couple pieces of guitar string and a corvid skull to jazz it up a bit. Claws and Effect
Picked up some Milliput yesterday. I'll be creating horrible looking monstrosities until I get the hang of working with it. Claws and Effect
Why not do a custom and incorporate it into say, the jump pack? I completely missed this post the first time. I might do my Librarian with Swiftstrike & Murder idea now...... Imagine rolling Fists of Lightning with that :D I think I have a spare jump pack laying around. Wait, I play Raven Guard...of course I have a spare jump pack. feuer_faust
I also say that shoulder pads work well. I used one without trim and some round files to make a decent one: Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/329079-suggestion-for-psychic-hood-conversion/#findComment-4609397 Share on other sites

Major_Gilbear
The old shoulderpad conversion trick work very well, but requires quite a lot more more cutting than most people do to look convincing, and looks best with added wires, studs on the rear, and topped with an icon. A grey knight rear torso is also a good (and obvious) choice. Yet another is to realise that the "hood" doesn't have to actually be a hood at all. There were a couple of old models (2nd edition and 4/5th edition) that show what I mean quite well, and the effect is easy enough replicate with a little putty and some wires. Finally, the new Dark Vengeance Librarian uses a cloth hood with the wires passing through it into the Marine's head (like Ezekiel's does). As cowled and hooded heads are easy enough to come by, and as they go well visually with the common Librarian tabards, this could be an easy and effective solution that's also distinctive on the tabletop.
