Magos Takatus
So... I'm not sure where this should be posted in the painting section but I found an old metal Grey Knight model laying around and I thought I would try a couple of new techniques on them. I bought him with the intention of learning non-metallic metal painting, but several years later I purchased the Scale 75 Metal & Alchemy copper paint set and decided to try to experiment with shading and highlighting the set more than I normally would. This model turned out be be a test-bed for several new techniques for me and I wanted to see what kind of criticism I would receive. On this model I attempted: 1. Using the copper paints to test a true metallic metal metal technique to give the appearance of lighting from above 2. A blended Nemesis weapon effect similar to the tutorial here: 3. Painting lighting effects emanating from the Nemesis force sword onto the armour. 4. General testing of GW basing materials For the lighting I was trying to follow these principles: Anyway, at this point I should probably show you some images. My camera saved direly into JPG format so I don't know if I can produce better quality images but for each one I've tank off the yellowish colour cast and brightened the images slightly. I feel happy with the results but I'd like to hear what others think I could do to improve. Interrogator Stobz
Mini looks cool :tu: I really like the aged bronze look. As to the location of this thread, as long as you limit it to completed minis (and keep the instructional stuff to a minimum) here is fine. :D stobz Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/329099-learning-new-techniques-feedback-welcome/#findComment-4602445 Share on other sites
BLOODSAINT
I see where you are going with this, and I like what you have created so far. I would go harder on your highlights and shadows though as its all just a bit too even. Especially on the top parts: helmet shoulder pads, arms etc. Is he coated with a clear gloss?
