El-Diablo
Im currently testing gold for a new Black Legion project and im still coming up short on getting it right. Everything im doing is either coming up too yellow (generally using Retributor Armour as a base) or too dark and brassy (generally using Balthazar Gold as a base). How have you come up with your perfect Black Legion gold? Pictures would be great if you've got them ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/329143-getting-the-perfect-black-legion-gold/ Share on other sites
Tyberos the Red Wake
I am also on a quest to find a way to do a bright, brilliant gold that doesn't become too yellow, which all the bright golds tend to do. So far I've seen an example that someone said used the old Burnished Gold from GW. Since that's not an option, I'm now looking into some VMA metallics and hoping they have a gold with the right amount of brown in it to prevent tacky yellow gold effect, but still bright enough to shine. Ciler
Try Gehenna's gold and Auric armour gold. Both are layer paints. This is what I get from : Basecoat black 2 layers gehenna's gold (being a layer paint, it doesn't have that much covering power so 2 layers certainly needed) nuln oil wash all over auric armour gold all over leaving the areas where the shade has gathered (or whichever way Duncan says it) fine silver highlight http://reho.st/self/a48e90e4f49fc0e94f1c481ec59c77799d5e810f.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/329143-getting-the-perfect-black-legion-gold/#findComment-4603313 Share on other sites
abadizzle
Depends on which look you're after for the black legion I think! If you fancy a more "playful" 3rd edition look I'd opt for Ciler's recipe (Gehenna's Gold (OR Retributor Armor), followed w a wash (I'd use reikland fleshshade or Agrax gloss) Auric Armour Gold, Runefang Steel (OR Stormhost Silver) highlight and paint the Black armour Abaddon Black (durp!) Followed w Dark Reaper and Fenrisian Grey Highlights. For a more 7th edition vibe I'd paint the Gold w the following recipe- RuneLord Brass, wash of Agrax (probably Gloss) layer of Sycorax Bronze, then a final edge highlight of Stormhost Silver (better concentration of pigment than Runefang Steel) I'd then paint the black armor Abaddon Black (d'oh!) Then edge all the areas inbetween the black and bronze w doombull brown, the edge highlight w Skavenblight Dinge and Dawnstone hotspots. Yay! Colors! Evil Eye
My gold recipe for my Emperor's Children is as follows:Base: Retributor Armour. Wash: Druchii Violet (which IMO adds a very "corrupted" look to the metal, you might want a more subdued colour). Highlight: Auric Armour Gold. Highlight: Liberator Gold. Ania Redfang
Do you have a picture of that gold Squigsquasher? Sounds interesting. For my gold I generally actually use bronze colours , hashut copper and sycorax bronze for a bright shining colour. Thanks Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/329143-getting-the-perfect-black-legion-gold/#findComment-4611402 Share on other sites
Evil Eye
Alas I don't, but I can take pictures and probably will, when I get round to it. It is a very gaudy gold for what it's worth, so it might not be what OP is after.
