So the first 2.5k is finished for this weekend. Land Raider and army shot below. If I'm honest I'm disappointed with the Raider but it will have to do.

So I'm at the No Retreat tournament this weekend so I'll try and get loads of pictures and hopefully do a write up on games.... Hopefully. It's gonna be chaos.

Plans going ahead I will be adding 500 points by beginning of April which will be a 10 man plasma squad in a rhino and a command rhino for the next event I'm off to. After that I want to do at least 1 Golden Demon entry which is Scars related. The wife has also got me a Warhound for my 30th birthday so that's gonna be awesome to work on. ThinkING maybe a crazy Fire Wasps scheme.

As always tell me what you think. I'll get a pic of the army on an actual table aswell so it looks better.

That is a great looking army Ironwithout I am so tempted by a White Scars army myself., so thanks for the information about your paint colours. I've been looking at a lot of the legions but kind of narrowed it down to WS, WE, DG or IF.

Fists appear to offer the most straight forward builds as they can do shooty and strong melee, army build costs can be reduced by using plastic HH kits too but I kind of think they are too common?

WE fluff appeals but I'm not sure if they transfer well to the table as they appear a bit one dimensional - run across with infantry hordes or expensive assault transports which then weaken the melee force.

DG look cool, good fluff but that slow playstyle? I'm not sure I'd like that after a while.

Scars on the other hand look great, they are not very common on the table but boy do they cost £££ to build an army. Can I ask why you choose bikes over jetbikes for this army? Was it down to already having built a jetbike army or do you think bikes are a better build? Bikes seem to be more suited to mixing it up in melee compared to jetbikes but do you think they have enough shooting to compete?

Oh and good luck with your tournament :)

I think the legion choice needs to come down to what you prefer and how you prefer to play. Without sounding boastful can you pull off a white you're gonna be happy with? Spending all that money and then painting an army you don't like will be heart breaking. It took me about 30 attempts before I was happy with my initial scheme.

As for choices. I chose bikes for 2 reasons. The first being I didn't really want to do jetbikes again. The second being I wanted to do a force representing the Scars leading up to/at the siege of terra hence the mixed equipment and heavy weathering. After a conversation with Alan bligh he was talking about how the Scars had changed so much by this point and how they no longer had the equipment they once did and how they were a broken legion. So I figured they would no longer field huge amounts ofor jetbikes.

As for what's better as a troops choice I think the jetbikes are better but the bikes have much more punch

Thanks for the reply Ironwithin it's interesting and helpful to hear your thoughts on the Scars. The last HH models I painted were SoH

I've airbrushed white before with zenithal highlighting (there was very little actual white TBH) but I have a different style in mind this time so I am not too concerned about getting the base colour to a standard I'd be happy with. I think I'd use a cooler white than last time as I used a warm white taken up from a cream offwhite base - I won't post a picture as it's xenos but you can have a look here if you want but it's just a crappy quick iphone picture -

Besides I've got a great source of inspiration for Scars right here smile.png

I've got the money to do it and even got as far as putting it in the shopping basket on FW but failed to pull the trigger lol

Apologies for the delayed replies and lack of updates. The tournament is over and I'll be uploading information on the battle reports and pictures over the next week. I finished on 3 wins and 2 close losses.

Came 7th out of 28 and won best painted vehicle, player voted best painted army and judges voted best painted army which was an amazing result considering how beautiful the armies were.

So my only advice would be as your white is lovely. Don't go for complete realism which is what zenithal supports. Don't be afraid to shade areas to add interest as we're imitating reality and artistic interpretation will often give a better result otherwise you can end up with flat results. Also with Scars your secondary and tertiary colours are as important as the white as it stops the model from looking boring. I chose the blue shade as thathe would pop better with the red. I will eventually go back and add green as a Tertiarry colour as they will compliment on small things like eye lenses. Hope that helps

Oh man, this is one awesome looking army and that weathering on the vehicles is just mindblowing.

Extremely well done army!

Thankyou!
