Cryptix
I was looking for some cheaper plastic alternatives for Imperial Militia when I stumbled upon these guys. http://dreamforge-games.com/collections/infantry/products/eisenkern-stormtroopers-20-man-set What do you think? Close enough to the range to use as SA. The price of normal rifleman is about 3x more after conversions, and their Imperial Knights are FIFTY-FIVE POUNDS. RandomMarine
I've got both a set of the infantry and the knight (both sizes). The infantry are pretty skinny so weapons swaps would be a pain due to the tiny hands and the knight doesn't look right next to gw/fw as it its pretty low on detail in comparison so it look really flat Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/329342-dreamforge-games-for-solar-auxilia/#findComment-4608087 Share on other sites
RandomMarine
These could be a better start point http://dreamforge-games.com/products/eisenkern-valkir-assault-trooper-redo Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/329342-dreamforge-games-for-solar-auxilia/#findComment-4608089 Share on other sites
Cryptix
Those look more like terminators from the pictures 0_o. Also, would the 15mm Knight work as a Contemptor? Marshal Rohr
Eisenkern are taller than solar aux. IIRC space marines too. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/329342-dreamforge-games-for-solar-auxilia/#findComment-4608119 Share on other sites
Joe
Frankly, I wouldn't touch Dreamforge with a barge pole for Solar Auxilia. I'd check out Anvil Industry or Victoria Miniatures instead; they fit the aesthetic better. Larkyn
I'm using the Eisenkern Valkir as Militia Grenadiers with the Survivors of the Dark Age provenence. They're pretty huge, but they get the Carapace Armour ++ of the Survivors Grenadiers point across. Joe
Are either of those in plastic? Victoria is resin, and Anvil is... sort of somewhere between resin and plastic. Both are pretty cheap, and are easy to clean up (Anvil, in my experience, never has any issues with flash or mould lines). Anvil have a Regiment Custom Squad Builder and Victoria have a nice selection as well. The former is releasing some new stuff in February that's based off of WWI/WWII-era infantry and will have some nice lasrifles like the Krieg lasrifles from Forgeworld, and Victoria already have some. Personally, it's up to you. Anvil is ridiculously easy to work with. I'm not a huge fan of the Dreamforge line as I've already said. :/ Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/329342-dreamforge-games-for-solar-auxilia/#findComment-4608175 Share on other sites
Idomeneus
I have some Eisenkern I'm using as Survivors of a Dark Age militia, they work ok for some of the more technologically advanced planets in the Imperium (given that at this point there are still grav tanks knocking about). While not as good as the actual FW models, I don't see why they couldn't be solar auxillia. Weapon swaps will be a nightmare, and they are quite boring to paint after a while (advantages of Anvil and Victoria minis). On the other hand they look cool and are dirt cheap. Not convinced by their vehicles/walkers, but Eisenkern with space marine tanks look fine. Haven't checked them with IG tanks, which are a bit more low tech. The other thing to watch out for is giving sergeants and so on laspistol/CCW combos. Some of the command bits might work, but I didn't have any of those so I just gave them submachine guns and reason them as short range spray and pray. Victoria miniatures, while lovely, would actually work out more expensive by my calculations (£40ish for 10, FW lasrifle section £70 for 20). Like Isinfier says, your call. There are some pics in my thread (link in sig) if you want to see what they look like based up and in context (though I warn you the marines are truescaled, so the Eisenkern will tower over regular Spess Mehreens). I would post them here but I'm pushed for time. If you do decide on them you can get them cheap at Wayland Games: http://www.waylandgames.co.uk/1293-dreamforge-games#/ Edit: No longer pushed for time http://i1296.photobucket.com/albums/ag20/Idomeneus13/FullSizeRender_zpsrzofhujt.jpg http://i1296.photobucket.com/albums/ag20/Idomeneus13/90048524-739C-4512-AF15-ADF7589E97D5_zpsabinquem.jpg http://i1296.photobucket.com/albums/ag20/Idomeneus13/58D73B3C-A279-4DCB-AC56-54672D978998_zps9aq05wgs.jpg Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/329342-dreamforge-games-for-solar-auxilia/#findComment-4608482 Share on other sites
