Rough Rider alternative, you say?

Look no further than the Sportster Motorcycle from Mad Robot Miniatures.

Stumbled across this earlier and I remembered a conversation on here about Rough Riders recently, so I thought I'd share it with you. It's definitely a nifty alternative to the cavalry models.

Checking out the site it looks like you get the bike, a choice between bare or sleeved arms and a selection of legs (some of which look good) but no mention of torsos or heads so I would guess you either use Cadian bits or buy something similar from another supplier.

Something like this is how I want rough rider cav.

Long sleeve arms the correct legs (I'd use all of them for variety) correct headswap and torso, a few good bits, should be pretty good.

Better than horses.

It does come with a torso and head as well (it's the one on the model), but aye, a wider selection would be nice. It shouldn't take much work to adjust it for say, a Cadian Rough Rider squad or some such.

Think you may want to check again msn-wink.gif

This is a PREORDER for one Sportster Style Motorcycle, along with a single pair of legs and a single pair of arms.

Please choose your arm and leg styles from the dropdown menus below.

I have been using bikes from Ramschackle games

along with Cadian bits and brass rod and this is what I ended up with

I stand corrected. happy.png

I did consider throwing together a post tackling conversion materials for the Imperial Guard specifically, but more inclined to pointing out the best places to find bits that match faction x or y. I hadn't heard of Ramshackle before now, though.

Just to clarify for you guys, the preorder was for the basic single bike.  It is meant to give people a way to work with some other parts and do a conversion.  Once these are released on Feb 1st, there will be 3 and 5 bike deals that will include a choice of heads and torsos as well

I also have plans for additional arms, including a few holding a lance of some kind.

Better than horses.

I don't know about that. Horses came in pretty handy in Afganhistan for Special Forces...

It's a pretty cool Idea, especially with some special weapons for fast hit and run troops...

I meant for my asthetically prefferance only.

oh I am soooo painting my 10-man praetorian light calvary to prove you wrong! You wait.

Having lived on a farm with real horses I can tell you with some authority that they are hateful beasts that are constantly out to get you(whether it's biting you in the arm pit because you closed a gate or jabbing at your toes with razor edged hooves), best left for glue.

Plastic horses, on the other hand, are majestic creatures (if done right) that paint up beautifully. For mine I avoided trying to model the exploding lances and just went with pistol and chainsword.

Again: Real horses = hateful beasts. Plastic horses = glorious chargers.

I may have issues...

My WFB army is brettonians... I played at least half my games with 100% cavalry... I just don't want horses in my imperial guard... I blame the motorbike scenes from Indiana Jones and the last crusade... and playing a lot of benifit gigs for bikers in general...

Bahaha, half my family would agree with you.
