Noxnoctis22
So what are your thoughts on Militarum Tempestus as allies for Raven Guard? I was able to get a good deal on two Start Collecting! Militarum Tempestus boxes for $100. I was planning on using them as Inquisition models but I figured maybe that work well as is with RG. I'm starting to do my reading and research on MT but I'd want to tap my RG resources here first as that's my main army. WarriorFish
Thematically they're a great combination and could work well in concert - the enemy struggling to deal with the RG assaults and deep striking Stormies is fitting for their ways of war. There is the issue of running two more elite armies, but I think this is more manageable due to their overlaps. How do you tend to run your RG forces? Scions can drop in and deliver focused special weapons fire well, for example a five man squad can sport two meltas and slag some transports for your RG to access the juicy contents. The Hellrain formation (in the Start Collecting box) will be great for this, letting you drop in squads again when they are destroyed - sort of like angry Stormtrooper missiles :P They could also move in to hold objectives etc that your more combat orientated RG units would rather not do which would be useful especially with plasma squads. MT are a specialisation codex, they need to hit hard and fast but as a RG player that should be second nature to you :tu: Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/329433-mt-allies-for-raven-guard-army/#findComment-4610556 Share on other sites
Noxnoctis22
Theme/fluff wise I see these two armies working very well together (at least in my head at the moment). Like you said RG = Assault, MT = Shooting, ideally special weapons. I tend to run my army around a core of a Shadowstrike Kill Team paired with a Inquisitor w/servo skulls. Below is my loadout for my SSKT, it pretty much stays that way but I can shave or add points as needed to a degree. Shadowstrike Kill Team 2x 5-man Scouts - 5x Boltguns, Camo Cloaks 2x 10-man Vanguard Veterans - 4x LC/PF, 2x LC/LC, 1x TH/SS, 1x PF/SS, 1x Bolt Pistol/SS, 1x PW/Bolt Pistol I run the above with a "naked" Battle-Demi Company which is about 415 points. That way I have access to the Talon Strike Force rules which work wonderfully with the SSKT. robofish7591
If you were planning on using them as inquisition models, nothing is stopping you from painting them as inquisitorial storm troopers. Its pretty fluffy if you are taking an inquisitor in your army anyway! The shadow strike kill teams, inquisitor, plus scions sounds like a pretty fun list to play too. Noxnoctis22
Well I'd probably be painting them a DIY color scheme as I love to create my own narrative. So I could easily use them as MT and also as Inq when needed. I'm also working on Deathwatch too so who knows how they may play into things....but that's another topic.
