Horus Heresy Book 43 in April

Black Library updated its coming releases page, and the next HH book after Garro will be Shattered Legions, containing the stories from Meduson plus Seventh Serpent.

I haven't read any of the stories as I prefer to wait for the numbered novels and anthologies. Are there any truly exceptional ones?

So with Books 43-45 already known, I'm hoping Book 46 will cover Tallarn and/or include Wolf King.

Pretty much what I was expecting. So much for the Wolf Cull claims.

At this point I kinda expect the Wolf Cull to be covered in a Corax-like anthology including Wolf King and a new novel.

From Shattered Legions, I really enjoyed what I read so far, being Meduson and The Either, though Grey Talon was a bit so-so for me. The Seventh Serpent was pretty decent Alpha Legion shenanigans and follows on from Angel Exterminatus, but if you despise McNeill's Sharrowkyn, you probably won't be into it.

McNeill's not the worst author and I like the Alpha Legion so I'm interested in Seventh Serpent. To misquote Severian in Vengeful Spirit, I never cared enough about Sharrowkyn to feel either admiration or hate.

Wolf Cull will be interesting though. Wolves versus Wolves, though we already know which pack will suffer the culling.

That would be book 44 Dark Chaplain - not 43. Book 45 is Ruinstorm. Book 47 Old Earth. That they changed the numbering since the announcement at BL Live 2016 means nothing.

Do you truly believe they will not release anything for a Horus Heresy Weekender?

Until HH Weekender will pass - dont be so sure and gloating msn-wink.gif

44 is The Crimson King. That one's been slotted in for a while. 43 and 46 were the ones they weren't sure about the order yet, and we also have confirmation that Tallarn should be collected in 2017 as well, making it the most likely candidate for 46.

The Horus Heresy Weekender is next month, 4th and 5th of February. They'll likely just have Garro, maybe a pre-release of Shattered Legions and an early CD release of The Binary Succession. If they're lucky, attendees might also be able to snatch the general release of the Magnus novel, but that might be a little too far out and too close to the limited edition still.

Lol the shattered legions, so meta. Won't just go away and die in universe, and keep getting releases out of it. :p

Meduson is the Shattered Legions stories we should've gotten from the start.

Personally, I feel it's one of the best anthologies of the whole series. The only lacklustre story for me was Immortal Duty. Grey Talon is one of my favorites as I feel it perfectly bridges Scars with Little Horus. Plus it includes one of my favorite lines of the Heresy:

Bion Henricos to Hibou Khan, "I fought and bled against traitors on the fields of Isstvan! You didn't even know who the enemy was!"

Very, very disappointed. Not interested in this collection one little bit, and thus a totally wasted slot in the series as far as I'm concerned.

So with Garro already being book 42, it's a wait all the way to Crimson King Book 44 in June before anything good and new is released in the HH series in 2017. The year will be halfway done before we get the first new book.

And with that, it already seems that despite the talk of 2017 being another banner year, 2016 was just the lone exception.

Bummer (although cool cover!). I already have Seventh Serpent  and bought the CD Meduson edition. I do have to say that the Meduson collection is one of the best I have read and is what an anthology should be like. Dan Abnett's Meduson short was amazing (not surprising), Grey Talon, and of course the Either were tops. Of course the Hand Elect by Wraight was great and left me wanting more. I think this is an awesome collection for anyone who has not read this...almost tempted with the badass coverart although the Meduson coverart is great too.

What f**kwittery is this? Madness to the Nth degree!

Numbered Novels need to be mind bending releases of awesomeness. Not collections of short stories bundled together for profits!

Not every one can afford to get the special books that some of these come in, it's accessible and makes your collection look nice

My collection of iBooks look ... nice?
Mainly for dead tree enthusiasts :p

However I'm sure the front cover sprite will look nice too!

As always, I advocate proper numbered anthologies for completeness. Eternal would be my rage if a bunch of apparently great stories (Meduson) never got a proper mass-market release, because I would never buy it otherwise.

For this entirely selfish reason, I say keep `em coming!

Also true. There are only 3 truly great anthologies in HH - and that;s one of them. Wraight, French, Abnett - did good.

Reason shine today on us all biggrin.png

This is the reason I'll never buy one of the novellas

They'll be released in a collection for a fifth of the price

Always, it's a long tradition in BL and GW - nobody says anything 'stop the profit' biggrin.png

Outside the numbered range please

Anything with that many Ravens on the front is a no-brainer for me. biggrin.png

Every bit of artwork I see concerning jump troops has them wielding bolters or special weapons mid-flight, are there any rules in the HH tabletop wise that support this? Just seems a common theme in the art.

@DarkChaplain, As someone who hasn't read any shattered legions arc yet, but knows about Sharrowkyn and Angel Exterminatus et al., is there a particular dislike for the character?

Very, very disappointed. Not interested in this collection one little bit, and thus a totally wasted slot in the series as far as I'm concerned.

Agreed, guess we will have to wait a while for some real progress.

Outside the numbered range please

But stuff like Legacies of Betrayal is already in the numbered range. The combined OCD reaction of changing it now would plunge the earth into a warp-rift.

And that 'broken' practice continues

Soon enough, I will have Sigismund cutting down every Champion he comes across...soon.

sure - in 2-3 years, lol

Heard a lot of good things about these stories, especially Meduson.

Can I read them on their own or should I've read other stories priory?

They are on their own Kelborn.

Especially the first one - Meduson, it is a start of it all, lol

I am not opposed to releasing stories in different formats. It frustrates me, however, for certain stories to be released in several different formats over a span of months - and even years - at an ever-decreasing cost, as part of what I assume to be a known marketing plan. Ultimately, however, I have only myself to blame. I should have learned my lesson following Legacies of Betrayal, The Silent War, etc.: there was absolutely no reason to purchase eBook versions of The Seventh Serpent and Meduson. I paid roughly $8 more than the cost of Book 43 for the privilege of reading the same material a few months in advance.

I imagine opinions will vary, but it strikes me like the above, charging more for an eBook variant of a "limited edition" novella, and the practice of categorizing anthologies along the main lines novels all make for a strategy that is not particularly fair toward a fan base that has stuck with this series for over a decade now.

Classic marketing approach. Premium products at premium prices to satisfy early adopters before later lowering the price to grab a slice of mass market. Happens across most sectors for most products, just look at Apple!
