I don't have a paint recipe but I'd recommend doing a dark Angels type of green with lighter highlights, the skittles green is just off putting to me lol :P

We have a good tactica thread just for the Salamanders in the above heresy tactica subforum. It goes without saying to use the Firedrake unit (super duper Hammernators) that will absolutely obliterate most elite assault units in cc. Of course take a look at a squad of the pyroclasts too in a rhino for close range flamer/melta hell.

Sallies get bonuses to leadership and flamer weapons (duh) but suffer -1 to runs and consolidation moves. Their RoW is nice as it confers move through cover and master crafts melta and flame weapons. Google 1d4chan legion tactics for a good (but humorous and sophomoric) overview on each of the legion units.

You can't go wrong getting the Battle of Prospero marines or Betrayal at Calth dudes to start you off. 20 man tactical squads are awesome but no heavy or special weapons. Look to Rite of Wars to build a fluffy but competitive army.

I tend to prefer a more Dirty green compared to the bright neon greens that we see around in 40K.

Cosmic castaway did imo the perfect Pre/Heresy era colour scheme:  http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/topic/276558-heresy-era-salamander-army-commission/

I can't point you in the direction of the paints used however.

Of note some paints you might be interested in are the Vallejo US Olive Drab/Russian Green as a Primer, Vallejo MC Military Green, Vallejo Brown Violet which are good for a dirtier scheme if you wished to go down that road.

Thanks guys, after some google-fu i settled on a pallette that works for me. I also dislike the skittles green seen often on 40k sallies. I went with caliban green for the basecoat, warpstone glow for the first layer. Heavy shade with athonian camoshade, drybrush with warpstone and edge with snot green. A final glaze of waywatcher blends it all together nicely. Ill post pics in the wip thread when i finish this batch
