SW1
I've been looking at my equipment I use for scratch building/general hobbying and realised a lot of jobs I currently bodge because I don't have the right equipment. For example trying to glue sheet material square. Generally I get it almost but not quite square. After a bit of research I've found there are 1-2-3 blocks that metal workers use to get thing spot on square. Still trying to find a local store that has them rather than paying a daft amount of postage as they're solid metal blocks. This got me thinking if there are handy everyday tools that people use in work and have found them useful for the hobby as well? So what none hobby tools do you use for hobbying? Are there cheaper and better quality alternatives to hobby branded tools? Major_Gilbear
Subtle Discord posted a great thread here about tools. My feelings and experiences are largely in line with his I think! :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/329601-sourcing-hobby-tools/#findComment-4616770 Share on other sites
SW1
Thanks for the link, it's a great write up for the hobby tools needed for everyday quality scratch/kit building. I've been making a small list of items I fancy trying to build myself rather purchasing for example a spray booth for the airbrush, vacuum form for scenery builds and a pull out hobby desk. I'm loosing the hobby room so custom built space saving ideas is the direction I'm heading in. If it can be folded away even better. :) There was also a vacuum vessel for de-gassing rubber but after getting some advice I'll likely just buy one instead. Flintfish
As for the 1-2-3 blocks. Have you tried building something useful out of Lego Blocks? I have had a resonable success using a mini engineers square and some blocks and L-shapes made from Lego to support items while gluing. This is exactly the kind of idea/work around I was looking for. Cheap but effective ways of doing things in an efficient way. What's better is I've got a load of lego I use for forming walls when making moulds. :) :D Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/329601-sourcing-hobby-tools/#findComment-4617989 Share on other sites
