Primarchs Books 3 Magnus the Red - BL's release strategy

So BL have announced today that book 3 will be released in 4 days time

However all the T&Cs throughout its appearance on the website have said that copies will be despatched in 2 weeks time (w/c 23/01/17), leading me to assume that they're releasing the e-book on Friday, 10 days earlier.

I don't want this thread to turn into the standard BL bashing, the publishing/corporate equivalent to Godwin's law it seems to me, but is there a genuine marketing/economic reason for doing this?  I am assuming this will probably alienate/anger people who have paid the premium for the limited edition hard copy?

Emm not really, people aren't buying the special edition to get it earlier, it's mostly to do with it being a collector's item that they know fans of the respective Primarch or legion will buy almost automatically.

Tbh anyone who buys a 192 page book for 55 euro needs their head checked. It's why I passed on the Shrike LE.

There's not going to be an e-book version of the Limited Edition as far as I know.

The e-book comes out with the regular hardcover, in April.

You're paying for the Limited Edition because it's 3 months earlier, and gorgeous.

I think you have to consider that BL is the offender here, and the people who want to read it but have to pay this ridiculous price, the victim.

That seems like a more regular way of thinking to me.

Unless you think people paying 80 pounds for a miniature also need to get their head checked.

Oh man here we go again!

It is absolutely outrageous that BL charge some of the fees they do (and GW for miniatures) BUT nobody is holding a gun at anyone's head forcing them to buy. It is called market forces. If nobody (or far fewer people) bought them then BL would not sell them! Period!

I recall that when Sons of Forge was released it was available as an e-book although it isn't available now.  I would assume a similar principal here, given the T&Cs inidcate the book will be sent out from the 23rd?  (Accepting that assumptions will make an ass out of....)

The ebook for Leman Russ is out along with the hardback, just like it was with Guilliman. I doubt they'd release an ebook for both Russ and Magnus on the same weekend.

I genuinely think that will be the case; given the above T&Cs I can't think of what else they would be call a release.

There's not going to be an e-book release for Magnus this month.

The e-book will be available alongside the regular trade hardcover, which is as it should be.

This was the case with the previous two Primarchs novellas as well ;)

The Limited Edition hardcover. That is what is up for pre-order.

Then in April, the regular hardcover and e-book follow.

true - right in time for the LE of Perturabo to arrive. As scheduled. But till that time you should have a lot of spoilers to avoid, lol.

OK Graham, lets get a Thousand Sons here, not an Outcast Dead. tongue.png

Being a pessimist I do not expect the level of TS - but it should definitely be better than Outcast Dead. Lol, everything is better than Outcast dead (I still struggle with that decision of Laurie to make it a numbered novel)

Right, so call me dense but this just doesn't make sense to me - why say something is released and available when, further on, they state that the book won't be sent out for another 10 days.  (I accept this is verging on BL bashing, which I am trying to avoid)

Outcast dead was a super important numbered novel.

That's a joke or sarcasm?

Hope so

Outcast Dead was barely readable

ATS was great

Barely readable indeed. Thousand Sons and Storm of Iron are 2 best books of McNeil

Just hope McNeill delivers

We know he's capable of doing the TSons well...despite his non-TSons material being mediocre

From what I heard tis a good story from characters point of view. Full of nice little asides and bits and pieces. You really get a sense of the two of them as caring brothers, but ones who aren't blind to the flaws of the other. Between Perti and Magnus.

And bad from battles point of view

I've received my copy. Gorgeous. Price remains too much but it is a lovely item. I've also received the regular hardcover of Leman Russ at the same time.

I think for the remaining 3 this year, Perturabo, Lorgar and Ferrus I will wait for the regular edition, or maybe just the LE of Ferrus.

Though the LE of Perturabo looks great, that must be said.
