LOTD IC idea, advice requested.

Claws and Effect

Recommended Posts

Okay, I have an idea for a Legion of the Damned character based on Ghost Rider from Marvel comics. The idea formed when I saw the flaming skull head bits from Puppetswar.

Basically a LotD Librarian on a bike.

So far I've decided he will be ML 2, but will NOT add to the army's warp charge pool and cannot draw from it either. He will also only have access to Pyromancy.

His chain will count as a force stave with Soul Blaze.

And that's where I'm stuck. I want this to be a reasonably balanced character that people won't balk at being included in casual games, but yet strong enough to justify the rather high cost I would put on him.

And yes, I'm aware of Doomrider. But I want to run this guy in a Loyalist force.

Any thoughts on special rules, point cost, what he's called?

In my headcanon it will actually BE Ghost Rider, but an entity inspired by him will suffice for gaming purposes.

Plus it'll be a really cool looking model if I can pull off what I have in mind.

I'm probably looking at this at a different point of view to you but I'd suggest making the chain something more individual. Maybe:

Melee

Strength: User

AP: 3

Vengeance

Ranged: 6"

Strength: 5

AP: 3

Vengeance

Vengeance: Any model attempting to make an invulnerable save directly caused by a weapon with this rule resolve the save at -1.

That's a really cool idea, Jackal.

Going with it, but making the range 8" to match a thrown grenade. Also Assault 2.

How's this sound for a stat line?

WS5 BS5 S5 T5 W3 A3 I4 LD10 Sv 3++

Skilled Rider

It Will Not Die

FNP 6+

May never join units of any kind.

The Toughness has the bike bonus already included.

Special Rule: Avenging Spectre

If a friendly unit is totally destroyed, a unit with this special rule gains Hatred and Preferred Enemy against the unit that destroyed it until the end of the following turn.

I wouldn't make restrict the psychicness beyond just being pyromancy only.

Also, he should have Fear.

Perhaps the following rule as well, in no small part because of the lack of force weapons:

Penance Stare: Whenever a model with this rule causes an unsaved wound in a challenge, each character in that challenge must roll a D6 and add their leadership. If the enemy model rolls less than or equal to this model, the enemy character is removed as a casualty with no saves of any kind.

(It is slightly weaker than force, but doesn't require a psychic test. It also should be worded better.)

I'm trying to come up with things that make it clear who this is without being a direct ripoff.

The Fear thing is a good point.

As far as the Penance Stare goes, I was thinking of having him trade his melee attacks for a leadership test that, if failed, deals a number of wounds to the target equal to the number they have caused.

A bit weird to track, but yeah, I understand the feeling.
