Order of the Desert Rose (test model up!)

So I am going to be restarting my Witch Hunters army (they're still my beloved witch hunters regardless of their "official" name)

After an 8 year brake, I decided I should start the process of stripping my sisters and get to painting them!

I will be slowly building, painting and posting pictures here as I progress

Once Upon a time, this was my paint scheme:

And this is where my sisters reside at the moment, an old GW issued brown box that my exorcists came in nearly 9 years ago! along with some odds and ends like an old coupon for the "newly released" marlboro snus!

The new paint scheme I will be using for my sisters:

So Witch Hunter model count:

3 Exorcists tanks

5 storm bolters

4 melts guns

3 sargents with plasma pistol and CCW

5 flamers

1 heavy bolter

40 bolters

5 seraphim (3 double bolt pistol, 1 hand flamer, 1 superior with plasma pistol & CCW)

1 priest with plasma gun

1 inquisitior

2 CC servitors

1 plasma cannon servitor

1 banner

1 cannoness

1 Vindicare Assassin

5 Heavy weapon bodies with heavy flamer backpacks

Plus:

10 ratling snipers (metal hobits with bandanas!)

On that note: I found out simple green "sweats" out of Styrofoam cups!

And as a 2nd option, I used a little bit of brake fluid on a sister, holy crap does it work fast! 30 seconds followed by an old tooth brush results in:

So, I'm getting to the final stages of stripping my my sisters... Work and weather has been insane not to mention the army demanded my attention for a few days (contracts and all that fun stuff!)

But the weather has prevented me from doing much painting side (which I currently lack supplies!) so it keeps getting pushed to the side...

But I have not forgotten my girls just time and funding have become slight issues!

So I picked up a hobby knife, paint brushes and my sisters are currently soaking in brake fluid.

Around noon I will be picking up all the paints that I am going to be using. But do any of you have any experience with Reaper masterclass paints? They are the only non Games Workshop paints available in my area and I really hate their paint pot design.

Online I've Just Seen mixed reviews about poor paint coverage but the next page will say that it has awesome saturation of pigments...

I have not, I will do that real quick! I however bought army painter paint under the recommendation of my newly found gaming shop.

Ironically he sold me paint at 2.99 a bottle vs reapers paint (at 3.99 but they didn't have the colors I needed for my armor!) or even the 5 ish dollar GW paints.

Can you tell its slow as hell and I work nights?

Edit: 44 sisters and 2/3 of an Vindicare semi clean.... On that note I REALLY want to go back in time and kick my younger -beep!-

The paint is super thick, pooled like crazy in the under cuts (under weapons mostly)

But, I repent for my past sins against the sisters of battle! I will drive on and get my beautiful girls cleaned, and prepped for my return to the hobby!

A slight update:

I was charged $119 by terrible satellite internet company that I've been fighting for the better part of a year so that being said it's a little bit tighter for my hobby budget.

I have the bone colored paint for my armor, the base coat for my tabards, gunmetal, a highlight for my bone armor and of course black paint.

The remaining items on my hobby hit list:

Primer however Army painter has a primer that is supposed to be color matched for the bone color I'm currently using for the armor highly convenient for the simple fact it can double as a base coat

Various washes for the armor, tabards, weapons excetera...

Highlights and mid-tones for the tabard not entirely sure what route to go the red but I have a couple options in mind.

And the part that I've been dreading the most faces I have a terrible time painting faces I'm not entirely sure what route I'm going to be going or if I'm even going to bother at this point in time and leave it alone to my hobby skills get a little bit higher

Finally a little bit of green stuff for the missing backpacks I have almost guarantee that I'm missing at least 10 maybe more I did notice last night when I was cleaning the 44 models that I have clean so far that I don't seem to have Seraphim backpack so that might pose to be a problem just not right now

And I apologize for any typos lack of punctuation all that fun stuff because I am currently using voice to text on my phone because I've been out and about for the better part of an hour and a half and I still have a few hours ago so yay me

Currently playing around with my new paints and getting a feel for my paint scheme.

I do have to say, I'm fairly sold on the tan (read bleached bone) armor!

http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k265/Yami_Yue/0129171258_zpsbkn8pkia.jpg

Edit: it looks really white on my phone.. I may end up getting the tan with seraphim wash next time I end up heading towards the hobby shop....

So my painting "skills" are still towards the bottom of the barrel. However I'm quite happy with the contrast of the armor and robes! I'm still missing a few paints but I'm still debating on how to paint the bolter. I just slapped on gun metal to make it not black but I'm still not sure how I feel about it....

you could always try some gold on the bolter casing.  It would definitely add an extra color and break up the bare metal look.   Another option would be to make it red like the robes, if you don't want black, or go with black, and paint the black glove in the same desert color as the rest of the armor.  This way you can then paint the fleur on it in gold.    If you end up going that route, the mask piece can be then painted either in gold or in the bare metal color.

Thank for the ideas midnight! Ill most likely end up painting 2 or 3 test models with a few variations to see what looks and works best once I pick up 3 paints and a few washes.

Tried my hand at blending the robes between her legs, i dig it but holy crap is it time consuming!

I think if I had a squad to paint vs just one model it would work out a lot better. I got rather impatient so the paint wasn't fully dry on the armor grip thicker then I wanted and bled into the recesses that I was trying to keep darker....

  • 2 weeks later...

So I picked up GW seraphim sepia, my hatred for GW paint pots only deepens due to the STUPID tab on the back of the lid intended to keep the lid open....

http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k265/Yami_Yue/2218_zpsxizcuzev.jpeg however, I cannot argue with the results!

Still need to do minor touch ups and paint the metal external ribbing on the combat corset, paint the faces and hair, face plate on the helm, pouches and grenades...

Now I realized how much work I still need to do but I shall continue on!

Wow what a crazy amount of metal there is on this thread!!! Good to see some old sisters getting some attention, with the new Celestine release and everyone expecting new models soon most people have got them kind of "on hold" mode. Also great colour scheme, shading the armours with seraphim sepia will keep it simple while looking good.
