The Fortis Crusade

Recommended Posts

Brothers, the cavalry has arrived.

I tried lots of new things here, and I think I finally found a power weapon effect that I like. Also, I plan to redo the banner on the Sergeant in the future, but for right now my back and neck can't take it anymore.

PHOTOBUCKET ARE HENCEFORTH DECLARED HERETICS FOR THE REMOVAL OF MY PICTURES

I might as well take all new pictures of my older stuff once I get back from vacation. I'm leaving for Canada tomorrow and I'll be bring part of the Fortis Crusade with me to Miniwargaming! I can't pack my vehicles/dreadnoughts, but I am bringing my infantry so you'll see a combination of my stuff and MWG's. I'll post up the batreps here. I'll also be playing 30k with my Mechanicum army, and 40k Imperial Guard whilst I'm there unless plans change for some reason. My hope is to get 2 battle reports with the Templars in there.

So, hopefully I'll get some pics of the bikers re-uploaded and then I'll work on getting some new ones up very soon!

Okay let's try this again shall we? Sword Brethren Bikers:

I kinda see what you're talking about, but my thinking was that the tires of the motorcycles would be designed as such that when they rotate off the ground towards the back of the motorcycle, it would be slinging the dirt off. It isn't supposed to be mud they're driving in, more like a dry desert sand, hence like a constant tan dust right around the area where the bikes are hitting the dirt. The dirt gets slung off the tires as they rotate, so really there would be a bunch of dirt and sand on the underside of the motorcycle. Unfortunately, they are glued down!

Edit: Here's an example of what I'm talking about. You'll see that the front of the tire is a nearly pristine black, but there's sand being thrown all around the back of the tires and motorcycle.

Fellow Crusaders I have excellent news! I visited MiniWarGaming Studios this week, and played 3 Black Templar battle reports on camera! Very soon, you will see an influx of our righteous zeal into their youtube channel and vault. I played Black Templars VS Khorne against Dave in a Banter Batrep (this was pretty light on the banter, standard game, so it wasn't really that off the wall like some of Dave's videos can be, so fear not). I also played against Josh's Night Lords using a bunch of Horus Heresy weaponry from the Forge World Chaos Index, and I fought against Cullen's Tau army. If any of you are not vault members and you want to see the videos whichever they put in there, just PM me. I'll post here when they are posted up to the website.

I'll be waiting to see those battlereps (at least the ones out of the vault)

I had to fly from Arizona, basically we made it a family Niagara trip. So we all saw the falls (which are absolutely beautiful) and then while my family did the boring stuff I went Crusading. I only just returned home a few hours ago.

Fellow Crusaders! The first two of the battle reports I filmed with MWG have been uploaded! There's still another one with Dave to be uploaded.

Here's the link for my game VS Cullen's Tau:

And for you Vault members, my game VS Josh's Night Lords (featuring a couple FW units)

If you are interested in seeing the vault batrep and you aren't a member, I'm working on getting a link I can share temporarily with you guys to watch the batrep. If you're interested just PM me.

I have a busy weekend ahead of me, so I'll be posting some thoughts on the games later in the coming week. Enjoy!

Great battle report!

I agree with your assessment, when the Tau didn't focus their fire and start killing things on the first turn, it was just a matter of time before you caught up with him and started taking stuff out.

Also, it appears that the MSU approach you took diluted the Tau shooting and weakened his fire discipline. You had a really solid list.

The one thing that surprised me was when you had a chance to go after his Sunshark with the Storm Talon and you instead, went after ground units.

Were you unconcerned by it?

Bonus: Watching the EC do his thing. Made me very :)

Brother Chaplain Honda, I am humbled that you approve!

So, on the topic of the Sunshark Bomber, I was not at all concerned with it. The firepower it had was insignificant next to the other threats on the table I was concerned with such as the Broadside and the Ghostkeel battle suits. Not only that, it would be forced to move away from my lines eventually as it cannot hover, and it must pivot up to 90 degrees and move at least 20''.

I knew that once I dealt with the suit commanders, the next real threat was his large blob of firewarrior teams buffed by HQ's. I had to work my way up the battlefield and surround them.

The pitiful Xenos attempted to surround me, and drown me in firepower. The commander was overconfident, believing that he had the upper hand. That he could go where he pleased and shoot what he pleased and expect nothing but success. However, he did not account for the fact that the Emperor Protects. It was not I that was surrounded, it was not I that was trapped on the battle field with him. It was he, that was trapped on the battlefield with me.

After I maneuvered to surround that large blob of firewarriors and the Cadre Fireblade, wiping the Tau off the map would have been a simple cleanup. After such a devastating assault, their leader dead, they were routed.

On the topic of army composition, I've said a few times on this board in a few places that Crusader squads are super good. The people saying you have to take scouts or nothing, power armor sucks blah blah blah leave that crap to the min/maxers who bought 5 Storm Ravens a week ago and are now going to be selling them on ebay. When playing against a reasonable opponent like you see here, Crusader squads armed to the teeth get the job done. Especially with the High Marshal close by.

-------------------------------------

Project updates, I worked mandatory overtime this past week so I had no time to paint. This week should be different. I got my High Marshal Helbrecht model kitbashed and ready for priming. This model will be leading the Fortis Crusade as Marshal Aimon Praxis, with his Combi Melta and his blade "Armageddon's Vengeance" a special Solarite pattern relic blade, one of many artisan swords forged for the Black Templars on Armageddon honoring the Templar's defense of their world.
