Nouveau 'Stine

So, after playing a few games with the NEW Celestine, I've had some thoughts, which I think I should share.

Pros of New 'Stine:

Ridiculously tanky. She has a hard time dying.

Eats GEQ and MEQ. Enough so, that I strongly suggest the castellan to grant her hatred, so that a bad roll doesn't get you stuck.

Hit and Run - Always good. both versions have it.

Cons -

No Martyrdom - would've cost 0 pts to put it on her, as she's so hardy that she's likely to not be martyred.

No Shield of Faith - which basically just means no adamtium will...

No Acts of Faith - which is the big one, since it stops any SISTERS from using their special abilities while she's with them. Which is super unfluffy, which brings me to my next point...

Doesn't feel (completely) like a Sister: She still feels like her old self, but a lot more "Marine-y" or generic? She has abilities that should be an act of faith, but doesn't have to pray to use her leman Russ shot, and she lacks the same synergy with her home army then she does marines. Maybe I'm just overreacting, but I'm hoping they fix her in a book down the line. (If taken in the XX formation, all units gain act of faith XY and shield of faith. If they already have shield of faith, add one to the invulnerable save granted by shield of faith.)

She does have the adamantium will special rule though.

The main one is acts of faith - gimping any sisters unit she joins (and only sisters - everyone else is fine) is... almost like the author doesn't know the rules. Especially as she actually cripples her own warlord trait if joined to a unit of sisters!

And her resurrection AoF always happened after she was removed, so she could do it even if attached to a unit of marines or whatever. Thanks for the insight! I'm planning on using my old Celestine model and a couple of seraphim to run her this Friday. And I prefer the term 'Newestine' :P

But yeah, the AoF thing is actually super annoying, if only because you are losing untility by running a Sisters character in a Sisters unit.

Celestine's too saintly to be seen in close proximity to us mortal Battle Sisters, I guess.

I guess. I think to really get the most out of her, I'd run a castellan and use a squad of Vanguard vets with dual lightning claws. It's expensive, but it'd shred through Marines and Guard like a knife through butter, and the Saint Herself can handle dreads and vehicles if necessary.

I used to run her with Seraphim, and the 5 templates with shred would burn out objective holders. I guess 5 templates would still do that, but not as well.

I also found using a Gemini to soak wounds was a good strategy. Keep one out in front, so she has to be hit, let her die and respawn on the following turn...

As Celestines wounds are automatically reallocated to the Gemini wouldn't it be better to keep them either buried or out to the sides?

It depends on if you have her attached to a squad? I wouldn't want to lose a dude with better weapons if I could lose a Gemini. That said, you could just put Celestine int he front and bury the Gemini.

Celestine up front with her 2+ 4++ with the Geminae placed to help tank for the Seraphim vehind. She can still LOSister if it comes to that.

Here's a question, although Celestine and twins can join a unit together, do they still have to remain in coherency between the three of them? I haven't seen anything saying they don't. Is this the only multiple model unit that join another? Just wondering if there might be a rules reference we could look to.

Technically, I think they are all independent characters, so they just have to be in coherency with the unit, I think.

Also, since wounds are passed on to the Gemini, I'm unsure if you can tank with Celestine. I was using it as each wound that affects her is brought to the Gemini before the saves are applied.
