Apothecaries in the Heresy

If there is already a discussion for this please point me in the right direction.

So, the ever helpful Apothecary, ready to path up any marine, or give him the Emperor’s mercy.

A few questions for my fellow commanders if I may.

How do you use them in the Heresy?

Where do you use them?

What equipment do you give them?

And lastly how do you model yours?

I am planning on building an infantry force, the start of which I have pledged in Loyalty & Treachery, and as such including some Apothecaries seems like a good idea, and maybe a Primus Medicae.

I have some spare parts from 40k I can use to build one, and the Forgeworld ones look nice, so I might get one of them but what other options are there?

As for equipments, bare bones or is it worth giving them upgrades?

How have you used yours?

Attaching them to 15-20 strong squads of Tactical/Assault Marines is the obvious answer.  I give them Artificer Armour for the little extra bit of survivability, but that's it - they're still only a single wound model so I keep them cheap.  I use the Forgeworld Apothecary models which are pretty cool, and because they have two different armour marks it helps me differentiate them on the table when I sometimes use the Mk2 model to represent a Primus Medicae and the Mk4 to represent a regular Apothecary.  However its easy to kitbash one - just grab the apothecary bitz from the 40k Command Squad kit and put them on the model of your choice.

For bitz, both the deathwing terminators and ravenwing veterans boxes has nartheciums as well, if you'd like variety or a terminator primus.

I'm planning on putting two apothecaries in two 20-man tacticals and one cataphractii primus medicae with a melta termicide squad in a spartan.

I tend to attach them to large infantry squads that hold objectives. It's amazing how much more resilient the humble tactical marine is with a doctor in the house. I don't run them with any special weapons though, just keep them barebones and hidden. That's just a personal preference though. If i do upgrade though it's normally for the augury scanner.
