audiobook narrators

Big fan of the Audio Dramas.

1)  How long does it on average to record an 11 hour audio drama?  And what is a typical recording session like for Audio books?

2)  Question regarding direction and character acting and accents.  Does the author have any input?   Other than from the source novels where does the character inspiration come from?

Sure I'll think of some more. :tu:

If you could hear an interview with the narrators of audiobooks or actors on audio dramas what would you like to ask them?

1) How many sessions does the process take. Which one is first, how the editing process is going afterwards, if there are any blockers for audio release after all the sound was merged.

2) How actors are chosen for specific role. For example - how to select and author for Primarch, Khârn or poor human being in the Warhammer 40k.

3) How did you create the sound of sonic weapons from 'Soul/Severed' - which are awesome.

4) What did actors do to prepare for the emotions range - sorrow, rage, pain, tears etc.

How are pronounciations of names handled. There were a lot of names that changed over the years, like Roboute Guilliman, or even Ezekyle. Has the editorial direction from BL taken a firmer grip in those areas compared to when people like Toby Longworth worked under Heavy or Big Finish?

I'd always ask the actor what his most rewarding performance of a character has been, audio drama wise. What scene are they most proud of having given their voice for.

And since your podcasts lend themselves to it anyway: I'd ask them to perform a line, some quote, using a voice/character of their choosing. Maybe something iconic from a Codex or such. "Horus was weak" or the likes, to give them a chance to show off their talent directly to the audience and possibly end on a cool and entertaining note.

I think the answer to that is an old 'Warmaster' audio from John French. It has them all and generally used as a standard for everything else. And it has exact pronunciation for Roboute.

I would prefer them to quote the phrase from 'Path of Heaven' from Eidolon - about Horus being a overspilled warp abortion

Looks like this is something that will happen in March so I'll put forth the questions and see what comes of it. This should be exciting, seeing the process on an audiobook and drama come to life. cool.png

Niceeeeee ;) I knew we could count on you veterannoob biggrin.png

How much do the narrators get to know about the setting, do they have any information about who is who, how important are the characters?

Are they assigned their books, or do they pick which they will read? If so, do they have a prefered author?

Does he has a favorite line he narrated from all of his work?
