Power Weapons and Sisters

Good Evening all. In preparation for the eventual Sisters in Plastic (It will happen! It has to happen!) I was thinking of making a Sororitas Command Squad to be equipped for melee combat. Kind of a emergency panic button type thing. I was orignally going to use a Land Raider Prometheus to transport them while still having Heavy Bolters, but those are sold out...

Any way, regardless of what battle taxi I plan to use, what are peoples experience with power weapons on SIsters? I have trouble deciding between Power Axes for that ap 2 and power mauls for +2 Str. I don't really know what people play locally, but I see a few types of marine armies...and maybe Necrons?

Any experience and/or advice will be greatly appreciated.

Those Volkite Culverin are definitely going to be counts as heavy flamers.

I was thinking about this too. I love the flame and fire but sometimes there's nothing better than stabbing the enemy with something sharp. Sadly I don't think there's a way to do it justice within the sisters codex.

Closest I can come up with is the inquisitor formation

Ordo Hereticus inquisitor

3 acolytes with flamers

5 sisters with 2 melta guns

4 "repentia" (death cult assassins)

1 priest

Land raider crusader

I mean this in the nicest way possible but EWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW. In all seriousness, swords are clearly the worst but SoB are so bad in CQC that the power weapon you choose won't really matter. Put Uriah and a priest with litanies in squad and they'll tie something up for a while but ultimately that squad win't kill anything tougher than tacticals.

Power weapons are terrible on sisters and command squads equipped for melee don't work at all. However forced to pick it's always going to be a choice between mauls and axes, the former being more widely applicable and giving the squad some extra anti-transport - plus alongside celestine they can come in at S6 for a turn which is useful against some targets.

At a stretch you can also give a dialogus a relic, though she is an inferior combatant.

They should give Celestians the possibility to equip Storm Bolters + Power Sarissa (as bayonetes they should count as Power Spears). With an assault vehicle they would became unstoppable.

For who does not know what sarissas are: http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Sarissa

Anyway, what about a squad of Crusaders that protects a squad of Repentias?

Chain-sarissa :p

Celestian variant

Celestians are certainly a poor unit choice at the moment. If you were to combine the best bits of the 5e and 6e celestians and command squads, and give them power weapons/pistols that didn't make them more expensive than marine honour guard, you'd have a half decent squad.

Against power armour the sword maths out slightly better than the mail, but since we're already Initiative 3 I'd just go with the Axe honestly :)

If you go multiple rounds, the concussive rule is what will save your life. That way your not getting killed before your initiative.

Though I am eager to try power Lance's. Kill everything the first turn, and their great!

The crusaders can't join the Repentia . . . And the certainly can't ride in the same transport with them. What do you mean?

Charge the enemy unit as first, taking all the reaction shoots. Their 3+ Invulnerability Save will tank a lot and then will come the Eviscerators. Better than nothing. Obliviosly you should use the Imperial Agents rules.

Why power weapons? I'd have thought giving out as many evicerators as possible would be good, as our Initiative doesn't do much so why not take the I1 and then whack the bejeesus out of things.

Sisters can't get eviscerators as wargear options outside of priests and the canoness - assault marines have run off with all of the others.

Concussive only affects individual models, so it only does anything against multiwound models.

True. The use depends on your meta. I play against a lot of Tyranids, so concussive is a life saver.

Ah, ok. My normal opponents are marines, chaos, marines, IG, marines, and a sprinkling of Tau, marines, and Eldar.

Except Sisters taken in Inquisitorial formation from C:IA don't join warband (so by extension crusaders) so that is kinda out...
