Kobrakei
Hi all Due to being lazy and not quite having enough storage space, I've got a few models that are now very dusty. I've tried cleaning one which was painted black with a soft make up brush which has cleared the dust, but also removed the paint from the edges of the model, so collar, rivets etc. I was just wondering if anyone has any different solutions (apart from put them away :P)? Tyberos the Red Wake
Get some compressed/canned air to blast the dust away without touching the model. You can buy it at wholesale warehouses, electronics stores, computer stores, car cleaning supplies, etc. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/330279-cleaning-dust-from-models/#findComment-4634880 Share on other sites
stormwulfen
I use an old, large paintbrush with soft bristles, not the sort you'd use for miniatures, more the sort of thing you found in your art class at school. I've never had problems with it taking paint off however. Compressed air is probably the better solution if that's an issue with you. NiceGuyAdi
As mentioned above, compressed air can or a hurricane blower (like this), which does the same thing as compressed air in a can with the benefit of it never running out. If it's good enough for clearing dust from delicate lenses that cost the same as a nice car, it's good enough for minis. Subtle Discord
I will second the use of a nice large brush with soft bristles. I used a 2" natural bristle brush that you'd use to paint walls. Compressed air is great for light dust that hasn't had time to really settle, but if the models have been sitting out for quite some time it tends to start to settle and cling to the model more; the compressed air will blow the majority away, but you're left with a stubborn dusty residue sometimes. A natural brush will have bristles that taper down to delicate fine points that can actually ever-so-genitally scrub the surface and get that dusty layer off, and they're so delicate they have virtually no chance of harming the model. Ovidius Incertus
I used canned air, air from my airbrush and a brush. It's really dusty here, so I have to blow things clean even while I'm working. Kobrakei
Thanks all for the suggestions. I've grabbed some brushes and a hurricane brush as well, and will see how they work out :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/330279-cleaning-dust-from-models/#findComment-4635976 Share on other sites
